Have a mate drive your car and then have a good hunt for it when on the move. Empty it first ( glovebox, ashtray, door cards etc ) just to eliminate stray coins and biros.....
I have found most of my rattles, more by luck than judgement, just the one behind the console to find..

Its outside right underneath but can't determined which side it is.It sounds a fairly big item if you know what I mean.Just thinking, could it be possible its the engine,as the mounts are not very good, and a fair bit of play in it.

If it's over bumps only, could well be your front drop link's. T.B.H I'm suprised no one's suggested these before
Mine were fooked but looked fine & had done 78thou so if yours are higher mileage or of suspect quality I'd change them, quite easy & fairly cheep mine were £25 inc p&p from E.C.P on a sale w/end ( lemforder ) B.T.W by far the best quality
Hope this is of some help.

if it rattles on pot holes when going slow but is ok when going a bit faster it's normally drop links.

Nah not drop links they are new, and its not a knocking sound, it sounds like something is really loose and about to drop off.

Exhaust heat shield or something stuck in the under tray maybe?
