Hi there folks, new here so please go easy, I just got a x reg 406, with 85000 miles on it, full service history lovely car for a second car, now I normally drive autos, having driven the 406 the clutch pedal seems to be a wee bit stiff, is this normal or do I need to be looking at some sort of fix, any advise will be fantastic,

Guessing it's a 1.8 petrol? If so, you've probably got a clutch cable which has worn or corroded internally. If memory serves, it's about £20 for a new cable and fitting isn't too difficult (other than the back pain associated with fiddling with a cable at the top of the pedal...)
If it's a diesel or 2.2/V6 petrol which use a hydraulic system instead of a cable, then that's more difficult to diagnose... Not sure whether the 2.0 petrol has cable or hydraulic clutch...

My 2 litre petrol D8 had a cable clutch according to service box, I'm not sure about the D9 though.

I belive my D8 petrol turbo has hydraulic clutch if that helps.
Clutch seems easy to press when comparing to some other cars.

Thanks lads, it is a cable and once I am sure the car is okay mechanically I will spend a few pound on it, it's a really well looked after car, that I will be using for a 400 mile round trip once a month,

Just to say, my 406 clutch is as light as a feather. My 306 on the other hand is really heavy - there's nothing wrong with it, its just a very heavy clutch that you soon get used too..
