I need someone who really knows what they're talking about with turbo's.
What I'm wanting to do is remove the standard 2.2HDI turbo (2001) and replace it with a variable vane turbo, I want to know 2 things....
A. can I Hybrid the existing turbo with the centre section of a variable vane?
B. how do I do the upgrade I want without loosing the OEM setup IE. the position and mounting of the original?
any help would be great.
cheers guys

You already have a GT1549P VGT.

It's a citroen C5 with a GT1544V isn't it?
or am I looking in the wrong places?
at the moment I cant be bothered removing the turbo to see what it is just to put it back on lol.

all the 2.2 across the pug cit range have vnt's, so the next step is a gt20 vnt and a remap to adjust the boost and fuel map and you will need a bigger intercooler.
the gt 20 vnt can be found on some volvos and iveco trucks.
the next problem i anticipate you will have is the head bolts stretching at full boost (25psi+) and the head lifting thus a daily head gasket change or con rod's making a run for it

are there head bolts available to keep things in line?
or will I need to make a plate?

arp head studs are the best bet but they are pricey, i think the thread for the head bolt is the same as the xu10? petrol
the arp head studs are made form cromo can't remember what grade but it may be cheaper to get some made

very usefull information thank-you, do you think a de-compression plate would be usefull too? make the studs about 5mm longer and put 5mm of steel between the head and the block with a gasket either side?
this used to be the best way to stop heads lifting on the old ZVH Turbo ford engines. might be of no use on a diesel
just looking for ideas, see i'd like to prepare the car for 200BHP+
EDIT: this is also a easier way or increasing displacement evenly throughout cylinders without the need for boring.

Not really, all you're doing is dropping the compression ratio, you won't be doing anything to the displacement (
swept volume) without increasing the bore and/or lengthening the stroke.
What sort of power increase are you looking for?

the problem with decompression plates is that thay change the cylinder designed now di diesels have a toroid(doughnut) in the piston top which is important because it causes the air to spin and twist this improves fuel distribution and other things, the other thing is the ports in the cylinder head sonic choke at quite low engine speeds i have no proof of this but apparently that are quite small.
http://306oc.co.uk/forum/thread-397.html have a chat with the 306 boys as some of them have gone for big diesel power the link is to a twin turbo and supercharger monster that would only start with some gas

seen this before, he ditched the charger in the end didn't he? yeah I used to have 306 XUD's before I had a family lol
been chatting on tdoc, decided against decomp plate for now, only looking to peak 200BHP/as much torque as possible.

he ditched the engine and moved to a 2.2 hdi block with mechanical fuel pump, he try to ditch the charger but it would not idle with out it
