Anyone tried using Shell V-Power fuel in their 406?

Been reading up on it, and sheel states that is is 99 RON. I bet that will give a noticable power increase, extra MPG and do a really good job of cleaning the engine.

Shame i've fuelled up for the month, but i'll try it next month.

£60 to fuel up could now cost £70 easily....

i know on my friends subaru impreza P1 it makes a phenomenal difference but thats a completley different car, i know my car ran exceptionally quiet with it, but i got worse economy than with bp ultimate

If that's the case, then if it improves economy by 17% it'd work out cheaper! I doubt it though ;)

They tested all these fuels on a Subaru, and the Optimax (as it was a while back) increased the BHP by 40 over stock unleaded. All tests carried out under the same conditions, on a rolling road.

Unfortunately, on a N A engine the gains are less, probably in the 2 - 5 BHP?

HOWEVER, the big advantage is that these high Octane fuels are less prone to 'Pinking' and they don't burn as hot as normal unleaded, so this is good for the engine. Throttle response is better and the care will feel more lively.

I used to run my Honda VTEC on Optimax every time, but that was imported from Japan so was used to running on 100 Octane, so I just wanted to keep it that way.

that does sound about right, the impreza P1 is already a monster, 0-60 in 4.1 seconds , but after putting the shell stuff in it, im not sure what the 0-60 was but the thing carried on pulling to 160 mph, and would have carried on going but the traffic started to build up

I've experienced the lunacy of scoobies in the past (only as a passenger unfortunately). 0-150 from traffic lights on a slip road roundabout to the motorway, uh, I mean autobahn... ;)

Jap fuel is so much cleaner, and there super fuel for mega tuned monsters I read somewhere is 104 RON, could be wrong but it is a lot better for engines. The shite we get over here is a joke, especially that supermarket stuff. Worst fuel is Morrisons.

yeah them morrisons refinarys must suck:/

there are a handfull of petrol refinarys in the uk, Supermarket standard unleaded IS EXACTLY the same as bp standard etc etc its the same product, 95ron fuel from whatever refinary.
The difference comes only with the special fuels the 100ron tesco, the v power and bp ultimate they just use different addatives.

Do they use additives to get the 99ron rating or is it substituted with ethanol?

Pugs dont like the use of ethanol in their systems - Its not reccomended at all!!!

As far as I can remember BP Ulitmate is actually manufactored at 97RON.
V Power is made from 95RON with additives.

Not sure about supermarket super unleaded.
I run the Sallye on Tesco 99RON and put in my own fuel additives (fuchs) because its the same price as BP 95RON and there are no shells near me. Oh and I also get the club card points ;)
