Car lacks power, but sits on the motorway at 100 mph.

I have a 406 estate 2.2 the engine management, DPF, Fuel cap open lights are on. The car is sluggish starting off, then picks up at about 50MPH, and will sit on the motorway at 100MPH no problem. There is a whistle coming from the engine, when pulling away, not sure whether it is the turbo, but I have checked the throttle cable for slackness, and drilled through the DPF filter, and it has made no difference, there is still plenty of gas coming from the exhaust. Is there anything else I can look for? Thanks.

Hi mate, getting rid of the DPF is great, the first step to a much better 2.2, however the second step is to find someone local with PP2000 to ' tell ' the ECU what you have done, so the ECU can stop worrying about the fuel cap being open, additive being empty etc, and give back the power....!!
What is yours like on a hill? The most I got out of mine on the M6 was 40mph - which is really scary. Disabling the FAP etc with the diagnostic should sort it.
The whistle is a good. Probably seems louder than most but its normal.

+1 You need a 'de-fapped ' ecu file and a PP2000 diagnostic session.
Add your location & someone local may offer to help. Alternatively, come to the next meet and you can probably get sorted for next to nowt.

Got the ECU sorted with a PP2000, thanks to Eric, and with a new air mass sensor fitted, the car now flies away! But, can any one tell me what the unit is called that works the swirl flaps? I have been told its the swirl flap actuator, but I cannot find one of these on eBay, am I looking for the wrong thing? It moves up and down to adjust the torque when accelerating I think.

Well, Peugeot call it:
0000036387 DIAPHRAGME which, according to Service Box will cost you £22.46

Hi, why are you replacing it if the car is sorted? It is a pig to do if you still have the EGR fitted, and if yours move when revved then it is fine.
If it ain't broke - don't fix it....

It moves but the ball joint has snapped off so it does not move the swirl flap on the side of the engine. I have now tracked one of these down from citroens as they use same part on the C5, should be here on Monday.
