Noise at low speeds/when cold

Good day folks, noticed it the other day when I was starting off on a cold day. There's a slight knocking style noise that you can hear in the first three gears upto around 2.5k revs.
Vanishes when its warm/at higher revs/in 4th or 5th at any revs.
Any ideas?
Thanks

CV joint worn maybe? any clicking on full lock?
Gearbox oil might be low or very old? gear oil is not much use until warmed up.

No, no knocking on full lock. Just at low revs and in a rate that seems to be tied to the acceleration.
I don't think the cars ever had its gear oil changed, but I did notice today it only happens when you're in gear - no knocking when freewheeling or standing still so you could be right. I thought it could have been the crankshaft pulley at first hence why I asked.

If it was the Crankshaft Pulley it would make the noise regardless of being in gear (regardless of the car moving in fact).
Easiest and cheapest thing to try is the gearbox oil and if that don't work then at least you have new gearbox oil

Will do, is there a guide on how to do this for an 03 2.0 HDi?
Cheers
