Hi all does anyone know how I can increase the bhp on my old pug, it's a 1998 (s) 406 td 1.9 90bhp all I want to do is increase the bhp so got more uummpphhh for towing caravan
I want do this cheaply as possible without major surgery,

I can't answer your question in any detail, but I understand it is possible to increase both the fuelling and the boost without much trouble opr expense.

Hi mate, I don't mean to pass the buck but the 306 chaps have done so much with that engine is is unreal....

First up, you need to determine whether you have the Bosch or the Lucas fuel pump. Either can be modified, but it's generally accepted that the Bosch is the better of the 2. The easiest way to tell is that the Bosch has a UFO-shaped boost compensator on the top of the pump. If you grab a picture of the engine bay, I'll identify which pump you have.

XUD tuning in it's most basic form involves the following: Increase the fuel until it smokes on boost, then increase the boost until it's clear. Repeat if desired until something breaks, upgrade it and repeat the process.

Ok, that's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it's basically the process!

Identify the fuel pump and I'll give you a few pointers

1.9 406's only come with Bosch pumps, but they're the later ecu-controlled version.

Still adjust in the same way, AFAIK

Ah, ok. I know nothing about those as us 306 guys usually avoid them like the plague!
