I have been on eurocarparts website as my car requires discs and pads all round, i wish to undertake the work my self, my question is, there are lots of different parts by different manufactures, are any better than others or should you always use genuine parts, and for changing the discs and pads are there any other things to replace while doing this springs, bolts etc or is it just a case of ordering the discs and pads and swapping them.
cheers in advance guys

Mine are Lucas from a local motor factor, bought for about a third of what the dealer wanted. Apparently they're the same parts made by the same people just in a different box.
With regards to anything else, I've needed a few guide pins of various types to replace ones that have broken during the job. A tube of thread locker is also recommended. Also I've discovered it necessary to use an impact driver to shift a couple of bolts.

Hi it shouldnt matter what make of pads and disxcs you buy they are virtually all made by the same people my brother is a senior manager for company that distribute most car parts and i buy cheap disks pads filters etc from him and he tells me that the parts he sells me are exactly the same as peugeot onw brand just a different box h has even showed me comparisons in the past and there is also no difference also he tells me that all parts have to meet the same regulations i bought cheap discs and pads off him for my car and they have lasted ages 2 years so far and the brakes are still sharp

Hmmmm, I'm not so sure about that, I once bought a set of discs and pads for a previous car that were Mr Nobody make, and they were total shyte! I was replacing the discs because they had a bit of a warp / wabble, but the new ones were worse than the ones I took off, and the new pads dispite being a few mm thicker than the old ones were considerably lighter, so nowhere near the same quality. Took them back to the shop and paid about 20% more for Lockheed discs and pads and the difference was amazing.
I'm not saying buy dealer supplied parts, just buy good parts!

I am not too fussy about the disc i use, just buy them a from a reputable shop. However i always go for Mintex Pads.
Had them on the last two cars i have had and am very impressed with the stopping power.
I've had them one the 406 for about 5k now and have only reached there limits once, looked in mirror looked forward car in front was doing a emergency stop from about 60 mph. I hit the brakes thinking i was about to crash, ended up pulling up 3 or four car lengths short even after backing off the brakes

I'm thinking of going for Drilled/Grooved Discs on mine when they need changing.
Anyone used them and got any links to buy from?

i had ATE power discs with genuine pads on my old 306 and they were awesome, they did squeal a hell of a lot but they never faded

What's the point in performance brakes and vented discs? If the standard stuff can lock your wheels at any speed (and they can) what more is performance stuff going to do on the road? A standard set of components will be able to bring any car to a stop just as quick as an upgraded system.
On the track of course it's a different matter since you'd need all the performance stuff to help lower the temperature under excessively regular and hard braking, but you should never have to work the brakes like that on the road...

Didn't think the 406 (esp in 1999) had any over that stuff.

That was how the last car came to an end, that time i stopped from 30 about 3in of car in front (greasy road). Car behaind wasn't as lucky.
This time luckily there wasn't a car behind me!

Is it a D9? If so I thought they all had ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Emegrgency Brake Assist. It's the ESP stability whatjamacallit that was optional.
