Hello
I have purchased a Peugeot 406 2,0 turbo -99 (XU10 J2TE / RGX) for a small sum from a friend, and I'm quite handy so I want to give it at go and try to fix it my self, unfortunately I am not so familiar with Turbo equipped cars but maybe you guys can help me solve the problem.
The biggest problem is that the turbo does seem to do its job after 2500rpm the engine does not seem to have the power to continue revving, it feels like a gang of donkeys take over instead of the engine. It does not sound broken or anything, and the car has just been on "EU Control" and emmisons are good and it passed the test.
So no blue smoke, no white smoke, no warning lights, nothing! I have not been able to check if there are any fault codes yet because I don't really understand how to do it in this car, it does not support my ODB2 reader. How do you read out codes on this car?
I don't think the turbo is broken or anything, and my friend said that the car became like this after it lost all battery power, can that be correct? in that case what can I do?¨
I have attached 2 pictures that show the turbo system. if you have any suggestions on what unit I should look closer on, please tell me number and how to test functionality.
Thank you so much for your help

Hi and welcome to the forum.
To read fault codes etc. you need Peugeot Planet 2000, (or a Chinese copy). You can buy these on eBay (UK) for about £75.
Don't really know anything about petrol turbos I'm afraid, but some of the other guys can advise.

Is the turbo actually spinning up? No power over 2.5k sounds like it isn't. I *think* there's a vacuum solenoid valve that controls it.

Have you check the slack in the throttle cable? If there is a couple of 'notches' slack the car isn't getting full throttle no matter how hard you put your foot down - I always look at the easy fixes first...
My power runs out at 3000 rpm, but I think it is a boost leak in somewhere, maybe yours is too?
