Loss of Power/ Turbo Boost

Hi All.

Have a 406 Executive Petrol Turbo 2.0 (1996) and just this morning I heard a slight whistling noise of the turbo and since then it seems to have lost power as though the Turbo doesn't kick in and obviously this hinders progress. I had a quick visual and aural inspection of the vacuum hoses but could not detect anything obvious.

One other thing that has been happening of late whilst could not be realted is when cornering the lights on DASH are lit like the Battery red light and a couple of others which flash on and then off for a brief second or so.

Anyone got any thoughts on how to diagnose this?

Could it be actuator or solenoid related?

Thanks

Phil

So I had a look at some of the hoses and found a split in the hose which comes from the airfilter box. I have circled it on the following picture in red. From the diagram I can see this is part of the vacuum system as in some pics I can see a BOV connected to the other end.

I guess the question is would a large split in this hose cause no boost at all? It seems very possible looking at the other pipes connected.

It's an air intake hose. It's possible but I wouldn't have thought it likely...

Can you hear turbo working?
on my pug, turbo is completely quiet,no sound from it,so i know it does not spin like it used to do.

You could take that pipe off & it won't make any noticable differance, the air intake pipe in the red circle.
But it's not advisable as you would be drawing in unfiltered air  .
Sounds to me like the solenoid that controls your wastegate or a sticking wastegate it's self.

Well I did get it finally checked after changing the solenoid valve which didn't fix the issue. The Turbo itself is seized.

I have been driving the car without a turbo and it is fine around town but I doubt it will be going anywhere near a motorway as it is gutless. What to do? Replace or have the Turbo reconditioned or just get rid of it as I was given the car. The thing is it is so comfortable this car and needs nothing else bar this Turbo!!!!

Sorry to hear that Phil :( ,
I supose it depends on how much you like the car, the mileage & overall condition, It'll probably cost you upwards of £750 for an exchange / recon unit fitted  .
I know this doesn't help you but it's quite a common problem on this model.
If you do have it repaired stick to 0-40w or 5-40w fully synth oil every 6000 & let it tick over for 30 secs min every time before shutting off  .
Also replace or flush through the oil supply & drain lines, be wary of second hand units & cheep chinese ones.
All the best DDD.

Ok an update on this, After the recent flooding and me enjoying driving through deep floods the Turbo is now working again and it pulls well in every gear. The garage said it was seized solid but I guess not something that some rain water could shift or somehow fix.

I will keep the car until it falls to bits now or stick the engine into a 205 GTi car which is something I've always wanted to do.
