I had a look at fitting my shiny new actuator and electrovalve yesterday only to confirm what I already new that it will be a much easier job with the EGR pipework out of the way.
Ordered a couple of blanking plates last night and just need some nuts, bolts washers and liquid gasket hence my question.

One more thing, the intake manifold on the 2.2 looks like it comes off fairly easily for cleaning? Anyone done it and is there anything to look out for? is there a gasket and is it reuseable?
I was planning on removing the manifold and giving it a blast with engine degreaser and maybe a bit of brake cleaner if its really stubborn, leave to air dry and refit - thoughts?

Nah mate, that Loctite is not the stuff for the job & T.B.H I don't think that the heat range goes high enough as it say's in the add intermitant.
What you need is a thin smear of Hermatite Red on both sides if you must.

Thanks for the response DDD, what sort of temp is the EGR likely to reach then?

Al over at the Coupe Club recommends silicone sealant and reckons 300C is the max required. I'm inclined to trust him on this since he's done it on many cars, but I've not done it myself and my car still has its EGR, so I can't comment.

Which blanking plates did you go for? You want to be sure they're up to the job and won't bend or leak under exhaust pressure!

According to the interwebz a Common Rail Diesel, at a constant 100mph would give an EGT of 350 deg C (a petrol equivalent would be 650 deg C).

As it says in the add they're not strong enough to be used as blanks on there own so I'm going to have to refit the egr and pipework but at least the extra spaghetti can be removed.

My egr has was mapped out before my ownership but not blanked as far as I can see.
I'm planning to give everything a good clean, blank and refit so it looks like its all there at a quick glance.
Also if for any reason the egr is stuck open it will stop the flow of dirty gases into my intake manifold.

If you want some thick plates you can put your name down on the Coupe forum on the thread for the Nico pipes and just ask for the blanking plates, they are about 6mm thick steel.

I did see the thread but in the back of my mind I keep thinking about the ever changing MoT regs and a very obviously modified engine may attract more than a quick glance from a jobs worth MoT inspector who had a row with the wife on his way out the door that morning and he's quitting the fags that week and his piles are giving him grief.........

You'd probably be ok with plain old silicone sealant & the one you posted would work.
All I was saying was do it once do it right , I posted the old name B.T.W (god am I that old).
It's now know as Hylomar Hylotyte Red (this is £3.25 a tube & meant for metal on metal joints with temps in excess of 500c & it stays semi flexable .
But as I have said all will work .
