5W30 is best, Total Quartz is a good one.
Normally can be sourced from internet for around £30 for a 5litre.
Fully Synthetic is a must.

Low ash is vital for DPF/FAP, and as GM suggests, I'd go with the manufacturer's recommendation which is Total Quartz 9000.

After some research, Total Quartz 9000 5W40 with "PSA B71 2296" approval meets ACEA A3/B4 standards (A3 is high performance or extended drain petrol, B4 is direct injection diesel). It's not actually (or rather, doesn't claim to be) a low ash oil!

ECP are doing Triple QX 5W30 "C2 low SAPS" ("SAPS" = sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur, "C2" is a standard for 0.8% SAPS) for £28.20 at the moment, which is likely to be what I put in the mrs' 2.2 next weekend. Doesn't have PSA accreditation, but it's the right grade of a low-ash synthetic oil, so I can't see the harm in it.

I can't ever recall an engine being destroyed due to using the wrong oil, or walking into an independent garage and seeing shelf after shelf every possible variety of premium brand to match against every possible car, so I reckon regular changes with something in the ballpark should be fine if you've not got a warranty to worry about. I'd even go as far as to suggest that regular changes with a grade suited to the car and driving conditions are more important than approvals. The DPF can always be removed if it gets clogged anyway :supafrisk:

Just about to do an oil change on mine. I do it every 6000, rather than the manufacturers interval of 12,000.

I have ... Asda 5w30 fully synthetic 5 litres. £20
Genuine Peugeot/Purflux filter £8 (ebay)

Is the ADSA stuff any good?

I tend to assume that outfits like Asda get their stuff from good sources, and the
lower price is due to their negotiating power., and lower proft margins per can sold.

I've owned lots of cars, and I can honestly say that I've never thought I've had a problem
that traced itself to whichever oil I was using.

It's not all that many years since diesels were recommended to have oil changes at 3000 miles.
So, with the car getting older, and 12000 looking to me like an awful lots of miles, I play safe, and
do the job at 6000.

I go for what seems a decent oil, and genuine filters, Peugeot/Purflux Made in France, rather than something
at half the price , that comes from goodness knows where.

Oh okay. I use the ASDA oil in our 306dt as it is a basic engine and pretty hardy - I assume the Hdi is a bit more fussy but I guess oil is oil...?

asda stuff is cheap because it dose not have much in the way of additives in it, so will not last as long or lubricate as effectively as say total oil

This is a current topic on the Coupe club.

Europarts have a 50% sale on - here is the link to the oil section.
http://www.eurocarparts.com/engineoil
5w40 is half price @ £12.49 - 5w30 is down to £28.something....
