steam cleaning

Hi all i have been invited to a car show next month and as the engine is looking a bit grubby is it possible to steam clean a 406 2.2 hdi and what precautions should i take if any thanks again paul

hi, ..spray some wd40 in places first, mainly the electrical connection's.

You shouid be ok with steam, certainly better than jetwashing thats for sure,

FWIW -id sooner clean an engine bay by hand, old rag method ..Wd40 is brilliant at breaking down old oil and ming,


here is a pic of an old fiat icleaned up using old rags/toothbrush/wd40 and cheapo furniture polish,

On my 2.2Hdi, I simply use an old spray can of tyre-foam first to break down most of the grime, then wipe it off.

Then use an old tin of flash-dash or similar, spray it over and leave it on, wipe any excess drops off and it brings everything up lovely.

Most of my engine bay covers ( fuse box, ECU etc ) have broken clips so they fly of when jet-washed, which isn't great... :roll:

I'll post a picture later of my engine bay which looks quite tidy for a 192K motor.

+1 for Lozz - WD40 is a good cleaner too.
