406 2.0 Hdi 110 Slow off the mark

Hi All,
Perhaps there is something not quite right with this car? It seems very sluggish to me below 2000rpm, often I have to change down a gear where I wouldn't
normally ~ having driven quite a few "modern" diesel cars and vans this one is lazy off the mark for sure.
And coming from a 4x4 MK1 2.5td Pajero Auto, having to ask this surprises me
Where should I look first?
Thanks Steve

Steve,
I believe the 110 boost comes in around the 1800 RPM mark, does it feel like it comes in around there?
Try gripping the boost pipe while you rev the engine, it should go hard in your hand (insert suitable inuendo here)
Has it had a full oil and filters service recently?

I will check it out ~ according to the service history I have of which there is loads.... it was serviced recently, however I am not sure what to
believe after the state I found the rear brakes in. I will of course service it before investigating this take off lag any further, and will report back.
Thanks, to be continued.

The MAF, is it one of these?

And when you say blocked filter, do you mean the diesel Fuel Filter?
Thanks Steve

PLEASE DONT buy the eBay MAFs!
I paid £32 for mine, then another £30 to get it plugged in when the car still didn't work properly, only to be told that it is the BRAND NEW eBay MAF that is buggered!
Got a new siemens one from EuroCP, cost £102 but car is back to normal, boost and good torque available from 1500rpm!

Thanks for the advice, if I decide to get one it will be a siemens one.... what is involved in fitting one? Do you need a PP2000?
Cheers

two torx head screws on the back of the air box and a jubilee clip, don't remove the covers till you have removed the old one and have it right next to the pipe and do it one at a time air box side first then the pipe
no need for pp2000 unless you have the mil on

10 minute job:
- Unscrew airbox housing (4 philips screws)
- Loosen hose clamp on intake pipe
- Unplug sensor connector
- Remove airbox top cover
- Unscrew the 2 torx screws
- Screw new airflow meter in
- Reverse of removal!

I found it easiest to just undo the MAF wiring and the flexi pipe and lift the complete air box out. My 2.2 had an electrovalve clipped on the back of the air box but I don't think the 2 litre does.
Much easier to access the screws on a work bench (in my case the kitchen worktop but don't tell the other half

)

I think this may have been a fault with the TPS..... hopefully?
I have just took mine apart and regreased it as per here:
http://306oc.co.uk/forum/thread-9969.html
The one on my 406 2.0 HDi 110 seems to be the same as this, so far so good, will report back after a few miles are done though!

I also would go with the MAF but before you replace try cleaning the sensors with carburettor cleaner, mine had some oil on them, since cleaning it works fine. Mine wouldn't do anything until you got to about 3000 rpm then it took off. Don't touch the sensors just spray them.

Thanks for the advice Peter, where will I find these sensors?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS it seems to be much more responsive after cleaning inside the TPS.
It seemed to be glazed over where it contacts the magnetic part, I think that cleaning this glaze off and regreasing has made a big improvement
