How to pass MOT emissions test

Post by bigknickers »

Having just watched my car fail on emissions, I've learnt the following:

For god's sake drive the car for at least 30 mins prior to the test to get the engine to max fuel burning efficiency, make sure you rev it hard to blow out the soot that has deposited if you are a 'careful short journey driver'

Remove air filter if it's dirty (easy air flow is lower emissions)

These measures should get you a pass and not have to buy a bottle of injector cleaner

You can also persuade the MOT tester to put the emissions measurement reader up someone elses exhaust pipe, depending on if they are easily swayed or not.... :supafrisk:

I personally wouldn't condone this behaviour... :cheesy:

I've never had an issue with it, (maybe it's all those commuting miles).

I don't consciously do any preparation and both my 406's always recorded very low smoke readings.

I always thrash mine on the way to the test as normally I drive very gently and accumulate a lot of soot in the exhaust, it doesn't take much to get rid of it, two or three bursts of full throttle at fairly high revs and you will see the exhaust clear.

I must say with the FAP system on my 407, I haven't seen any smoke at all when booting it. Even in headlights that usually show all the smoke that's coming out...

I seem to remember the emissions from the last MOT test were 0.15...

Mine went for MoT yesterday, it failed on a couple of minor bits but it did breeze the smoke test.

I do loads of town driving but regular doses of forte, DPF removal and blanking the EGR seems to do the trick for emissions testing.
