2.1td, boost adjustable?

Post by clarkey1984 »

I've been having a little google about boost adjustment on the xud engine, and from what I have seen it's allegedly possible to adjust the boost on both the Lucas and Bosch systems, my car has over 200k under its belt and does go ok as it is, but I did wonder how I would go about tweaking it for a little bit of a performance gain.

My car is a P plate 2.1 td, and I don't know whether it has a Lucas or Bosch setup, but I just wondered if adjustments are possible or not, and if so, how I might go about it.

Thanks in advance :)

The Bosch pump is easy to uprate, there is a screw and locknut on the back of the pump where the injection pipes come out, turning the screw clockwise I think will increase the fuel, it only need moving a small amount. The lucas one is not so easy and as I have only had Bosch pumps on the XMs I have been driving for 15 years or more I don't know much about the Lucas ones.

I suspect yours might be part electronic control if its on a 406 or even a full electronic EPIC pump, in which case I can't help you although someone else might be able to. Does it have a throttle cable attached to the pump or is it fly by wire?

There is a fella on YouTube that showed how to adjust the Bosch pump, there is an Allen key bolt under a little cover on the pump, just above the alternator ( cover the alternator with something as diesel will pour out, then you need to turn the pump internals to see the bolt/screw as it rotates)....

I think yours may be a Lucas, its possible to tweak ( same YouTube box ) but more tricky....

Presumably that would be an electronic Bosch pump, mine were all mechanical.

You have a fully electronic Lucas EPIC pump.
It needs remapping for any extra fuel.

Personally I'd replace it with a Bosch pump!

Cheers guys, lots of helpful info :)

I think I'll go down the cat ahem, *modification* route haha, although I have to say I'm quite surprised something diesel and as early as 96 would even have a cat fitted, well you learn something new every day eh :)
