Hello, it seems to be the Year of The Vehicular problem and I'm having a few!The latest is that the old girl is spewing out water from the overflow reservoir - mechanic thinks it could head gasket - no prob but he wonders too if it might be the head in which case I need to source one. Had a quick look on ebay UK but there's only a HDi there. Anyone know where there might be one for sale? (postage to Hungary

)

Here's one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-PEUGE ... 4614687ee9 I think they're having a giraffe at that price though.
The 2.1td also made it's way into some Fiats, not sure if there are any differences though.

yes, £150 plus postage seems a lot, could probably find one here for that.
Mike - what are you asking, if this price is right, it may be worth adding on DHL
Still waiting to hear if we actually need it!

Right... so the head is cracked. They suggested welding it up but that comes out very expensive.
So I'm looking for a head if anyone knows of one...
cheers

That is bad luck :-( I have the same problem with my 90hdi and am reluctant to strip until I know I can source a new head. Would like to know anyone in the North West area who has a spare and is willing to let it go, I would like to know!
Good luck with yours!

It is very unusual for a 2.1 head to crack, after all the problems with the 1.9 the 2.1 was redesigned to improve circulation and prevent air pockets. I ran 2.1 XMs for about 15 years and probably 300,000 miles but never had a head crack although a couple of them I inadvertently boiled, one of them several times. The gaskets usually fail at around 150,000 miles but I have only replaced one.
I would be inclined to take the head off and have it checked before you fork out for a replacement.

Hi Peter
they have the head off and confirm that it's cracked, I'm afraid...

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, to tell you failure very rare doesn't help much then

I scrapped a couple of XMs with good engines a couple of years ago - but that doesn't help much either, I still have one but am hoping to get it back on the road again. A head from an XM or Xantia should be OK although the ancillaries may need to be changed over.

Don't know if this is of any help:

Hi Peter, no worries! Unfortunately, I'm in Hungary so I can't really take on a whole scrapper! But it's useful to know the Citroens could fit too... thanks

Actually, I'm looking anywhere, here in Hungary and the UK. I'll just pay the £30 or so for the postage!

well, I found one in the uk but they wouldn't answer when I asked if they'd post to Hungary - maybe just too 'Foreign' for them! Now found one here for the equivalent of £130... seems quite a lot but at least I can go and collect it myself so: job done.
Until the next time!
thanks all for your help and advice.
