HDi - TPS cable - what to do when adjustment runs out?

Post by bytecode »

Hi all,

so my 406 Rapier 2.0HDi 90bhp estate now has smooth steering - Hurrah! Thank you guys, but, now lets chat about the TPS and the accelerator cable. (BOOO!)
I've been taking up slack on the accelerator cable at the TPS end over the years, but now it's a stretch too far.
What are my options?
  • Is there any adjustment available at the pedal end?
  • could I cut and crimp?
  • is the cable so gone at 228,000miles that I just need to get a new one?
(
Surely - as diesel doesn't have a throttle, it shouldn't be a TPS anyway and should be called either:
  • an APS - Accelerator Position Sensor
  • GFJS - Go Faster Juice Sensor
  • DWS - Driver Wish Sensor (more appropriate to ECU nomenclature I guess)
)
Now if I can just fit the mods from "Taxi" http://tinyurl.com/3yug4g3

I can provide PP2000/Lexia 3 code reading/clearing in the East Cornwall/West Devon area.

A rose by any other name........

Not tested this personally, but I have read that on petrol V6's, you can 'calibrate' the TPS as follows:

With the engine stopped, press and hold the accelerator to the floor.
Turn on the ignition, continue to hold the accelerator down for 10 seconds.
Release pedal.

TPS should now be calibrated to treat whatever value it records at full throttle as 99%

I keep promising I will test this next opportunity, but keep forgetting.
