FAP..DPF.. Regeneration

Post by Malc »

The old gel's blowing black smoke.
Anyone point me on how to do a regeneration using PP2000?
Anyone done a Eolys top up?
Give it to the local stealer to sort out?
Grateful any advice.

Get rid of it. Not worth the hassle. If you need a fluid top up then your filter will be clogged with ash which won't get cleared by a regeneration and will need replacing too.

Never done the regeneration/fluid top up, the last one I had that needed this I was advised not to do it so I took it to the dealer for my customer...they fitted a new additive bag, reset the counters, topped up the fluid and did the regen for £180 inclusive.

Here is a little bit of what Peugeotforums say....http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/gen ... 000-22603/

Have you got messages/fault codes or just black smoke?

Hi Malc,

Was it a 2.2 HDi 406 you bought in the end?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Is that a typical response from the antipodes? Maybe still driving Holden tractors down there or moved on to jap-crap?
Still the same concours d'elegance wheels Doggy and plenty good liquide (cash) mechanics here in France to do the job.
Was simply asking if anyone had gone down this road diy..
Thanks the link jasper5...

Well my response is one of experience. I've not long been through this albeit with a 1.6 110 hdi and after looking at all aspects of removing or repairing I opted for removal and remap. It wasn't much cheaper than repairing the system but as I'd have to go out of my way to find a motorway just to do regenerations I decided removal was the best way. The reason I say you will need a new filter is that I spent over an hour pressure washing it not long before I removed it and when I gutted the can the filter was still clogged with ash. Given that the remove, gut and refit of the filter took me less than 45mins and then the cost of the remap. Doing a 2.2 hdi would be a no brainer as you can remap yourself for the cost of a Galletto. So yes a typical antipodean response but well researched and thought out. For the record I'd rather drive Jap crap over this unreliable french s#th any day of the week but unfortunately due to fuel costs the way the road tax system works here in the UK a 307sw is the cheapest way for me to put 6 seats on the road, I just wish I'd known more about the 1.6 before purchase and bought the 2.0 instead

Which if posted originally would have brought a much more responsive post from this direction like well done on your effort.
Jap crap? I worked three years in Japan and to this day I don't think they would know a "concours d'elegance" set of wheels if they met one in their mizu soup.
Ugly buggers one and all built to fit Snow-white's 7 compadres!
Now I've got that to one side, I'm presently sitting at 406 Hdi with 250,000 kliks on the clock and one year's mot left.
Fyi French Mot 2 years by a govt approved privately run mot centre with no rpt no road tax and no differentiation in engine size towards the pound in your pump.
Come on down!
At midway between the 70 and 80 years young mark I still feel I can tackle a DPF clean-out or change plus Eoylus top up if someone can point me towards any pitfalls.
nb There are diy guys out there who actually take off the DPF cut a hole in the side remove the entire ceramic filter/insert weld back a plate over the hole.
Bingo!...and maybe worth it for another year's running?

It's somewhat simpler than that....viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12487

In my opinion, it's easier/quicker/cheaper to remove the DPF than clean and refit it, plus top up the fluid, reset counters/add fuel/reset again/regen.
Bear in mind the latter course of action will need to be repeated at some point too.

That's what I was trying to get across I've seen those welding jobs and they look nasty. I removed, gutted and refitted the filter can in my 307 in 45 minutes, the can on the 2.2 is easier to get to and you can remap it yourself (which I couldn't do on the 307). If you do decide to gut the filter I'd recommend getting your hands on an sds drill with chisel it makes life alot easier. The thread linked shows how to remove the filter fitting a new one will just be reverse. Filling the fluid up is not difficult either you can buy a filling kit that clips onto the tank and gives you a funnel to hang on the mirror. Reset the counters with pp2000 and done.

Sorry it took so long it seems I'm either at work or being harassed by kids. Usually the only chance you have of getting a decent reply from me is when I'm on the can.
P.s. I've been looking at jobs in Europe and I kinda fancy toulouse area plenty of aircraft work for me, just need to finish my easa b1/b2 and get round to getting my British citizenship (assuming we haven't voted ourselves out of the EU by then)

Know how you feel Doggy.. I've been retired here for 20 years and still hate the place.
Isn't life a bitch!!
Just picked up your point on the 406 2.0 Hd which has no DPF...
Thanks.
OllieNZ my very best wishes in your quest.
