No throttle response

Post by Nandad »

Hi
My petrol tubbie will start and tick over but no throttle response. Cable ok. Any suggestions before I pay for diagnostic? Would a noisy turbo screw this up? It was running ok last night.

Check the turbo pipes first.

Do you have engine management light on?

Hi
Turbo pipework seems ok and no engine management light. Gould this happen in the 3 hours? Because all was ok when I got home.
Disconnected the throttle sensor and cleaned the contacts. No change

From my experience, anything can happen at any time.

I've had cam belt failures after the engine has been switched off plus many other odd situations, too many to list.

Does it rev up at all?

It could be fuel pump related or fuel pressure regulator.

Diagnostics might be your next step...can you get access to PP2000?

Is this what is known as sods law?

Fuel pressure seems ok, and plenty of it (wife suggestion).

And no I don't have access to a pp2000 but I am trying to sort this without paying a kings ransom (local garage wants £50) Is this normal?

Thanks

Hi Jasper

Just got off the phone with local garage, £150.00 to come out and check.

Just been exploring the pp 2200. Software seem to have a compatibility problems with Windows 7 & 8. Do you have any information? Do I need all the leads?

Going to try the AA this pm think they carry diagnostics kit?

Join a breakdown service AA/RAC/Greenflag etc make sure you have homestart added then give them a callout, should be able to diagnoze and maybe even fix it.Read the conditions first tho, i think my RAC had to be in force for 24 hours before i had full-cover.

Why not try disconnecting the battery for 30 mins? make sure all the windows are up and the car is left unlocked with the door open just in case it throws a wobbly.

Sounds like a communication error to me, the ECU can't 'see' that you're pressing the gas pedal.

Wont disconnecting the battery wipe any fault codes?

No, they're logged in secure memory and can only be erased by the diag software.

Hi all

Guess what. It was the bl+++dy throttle linkage. It was not there. Found it in the road at the bottom of the drive. AND what I was told was a noisy turbo was just a noisy rad fan.
I think I might be changing garages.

I am know the proud owner of a pp2000 (an early fathers day present from the kids).

Many thanks for all the great information.

Glad you got it sorted.
For PP I use VMWare player on a Windows 7 laptop, its free for home use and pretty straight forward. Saves having to format your machine just for car diag stuff and you can run a bare XP install with no network connectivity so no need to worry about security and your cloned PP can't try and update itself by accident.
As for the PP install it is a royal PITA the first (second, third...) time but well worth it.
