Starting problems after a run in hot weather
Hi I am hoping for a bit of advice with my 2000 406 hdi 90 estate with 189k. It's never really fired first straight away but recently if I do my 20 mile drive back from work then have to pop out again within an hour it just won't start. I have to wait longer then it's fine again. It cranks fine but just won't catch. I can hear the fuel pump working when I turn the key. Just wondered if anyone had similer. I had this problem on a C5 with the 110 engine, it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator on the HP pump or rather he filter on it, but as its almost impossible to clean the filter a new regulator would probably be the way.
They are quite easy to fit, held on to the pump with two torx or allen screws and a connector. It would be a good idea to get the fault codes read though in case its something different on yours.

I think you stand a fair chance or that being the problem. I originally changed the pump on mine which cured it but when I later used the regulator off the pump It brought back the hot starting problem so it was obviously the regulator. Hope you are successful.

Hi problem sorted, it was the starter motor. Put a recon one on today and it starts really quickly every time. Thanks for the advice

Good job done. They do need turning over at a fair speed to start well.
