Pp2000 has brought up a few things....

Post by Ady1985 »

Used pp2000 to check in depth into my car and pulls up a few errors, mainly been related to my air con been broke but that is the least of my worries.

1st it says airbags on left hand side of car are faulty, but no airbag light or warning comes on mfd so not worried.

My car keeps cutting out every now and then and a normal diagnostic pulls up power train to fuel pump, pp2000 brings up high pressure fuel fault (leak) checked it and no leak but it turns lifter off in tank for a minute then starts it back up. I'm assuming that may have something to do with plugs to fuel pump. (Can get error codes and messages tomorrow)

Last but not least it says egr fault iirc says solenoid stuck open, I've took a pic of egr, is it meant to look like this??

It looks like it's missing something compared to replacement parts I've looked at [emoji53]

I am thinking of mapping my car and deleting egr with a blanking plate and off ecu, has anyone done this band does it make the car run better or wors? Or does it not make a difference?

Thanks in advance

it is a leak just it an internal on an o-ring on the fpr or the fpr is jamming open , for me the egr delete made the car run better because there was nothing to open at high revs and loose all the boost down the egg sauce.

Think a blanking plate and 100 of my notes to hdi tuning sending my ecu files via e-mail is on the cards unless my cousins 306 has same setup then I'll take his map lol

I believe a blanking plate is a good thing - it means your car won't be breathing in the crap it breathes out..... Less to go wrong in the future.

You can run you car without the remap, iirc, just blanking the EGR and it shouldn't misbehave. I ran a 2.2Hdi with the EGR blanked for 18 months before I had the correct map put on it.... :cheesy:

I'm planning on the stage 1 map anyway just for that little extra grunt as went to fcs2014 towing a trailer and I was 80kg below total max towing limit and car limit and sat comfortable at 70 but when wanting that little extra to get past lorries was a killer. Is there a post on here on how to blank off as I am oblivious to what to take off and blank tbh [emoji58]

It's dead easy mate, I've just done mine :cheesy:
Just follow the egr pipe from where you have taken the photo to the other end where you will find a join with two M6 cap heads.
This is where it feeds back into the inlet track  , you just undo those two cap heads & slip in your blanking plate & tighten them back up with a smear of hermite red for good measure :cheesy: .
There is a guy on ebay selling the blanks for a few quid, you want the 1mm thick one & I'd go for the one that's sloted NOT the one with holes in as it's quite easy to cross thread the cap heads when putting them back in  ( trust me I know ) so if you get the slotted one you just loosen the cap heads & slip it in  .
I made my own, but only because I couldn't wait for the postage :supafrisk: .
I can assure you it'll run fine with the egr blanked, just remember to plug the electro valve vac line to it ( it's the blue one on the bulkhead )
If you have a dosser fitted you may want to remove that as well as this works in conjunction with the egr valve.
I did away with mine by simply cutting off the solinoid with a hacksaw then cutting the butterfly valve & spindle in half ( it's only plastic ) & removing it, make sure you have removed the bit of broken spindle from the blind hole side ( the opposite to where the solinoid was ).
This will leave you with a 9mm hole to fill up, this can be done with some araldite ( just make sure you clean it with some thinners / acetone first ) leave it 1 hour to set & reassemble.
Oh & don't forget to plug up the Dosser electro valve as well ( a couple of 5mm bolts will do, I'd put a small cable tie on as well just for good measure.
You car will now breath better & be better on fuel Happy Days :cheesy:

Apologies to DDD for disagreeing but I'd blank it at the EGR end, especially as there is already issues with the thing sticking open. Blanking before the EGR means you only have 1 joint to worry about when it comes to exhaust gases leaking into the engine bay.
If memory serves I used a 3mm plate when I did mine, turbo pipe off, undo EGR and pop the plate in, a goog layer of high temp liquid gasket between each layer.
If the layout is basically the same as mine you can undo the hard to reach end of the turbo pipe by sliding your arm down the side and there is a bolt and a jubilee clip holding it on the turbo. I managed on my 2.2 to do it by feel even with my sausage fingers so you should be fine.

+1 - undoing the turbo inlet it easy, but you will need to lay across the engine to undo the 2 x 10mm bolts for the EGR. I decided to blank both ends with thin plates as I was refitting the EGR and pipework for MOT reasons... :supafrisk:

gumby, I agree it is better to blank at both ends but I am led to beleive it's a pig of a job at the egr end & mine aint leeking.

It is a pig of a job, took ages to get the EGR, blanking plate and the brass washer all lined up at the same time to put the bolt through with limited space laying on your tummy across the engine.....

I'm glad I did it though.

I don't recall problems lining things up when I did mine but I was more concerned with butchering..err..I mean modifying my vac system at the time. I removed a fair bit of stuff so I had easy access to pipes and EV's etc so I could trace stuff and swap the swirl actuator and I wanted a good view having never tackled the job before.
My biggest issue was snapping the jubilee clip when I put the turbo pipe back in and digging around finding a suitable replacement.
I did take the EGR and it's pipe out in one which probably helped with the realignment as you have multiple points of reference.
Copious amounts of high temp gasket are a must on each side of the copper gasket, torque the screws down (up in this case but you know what I mean) and wipe off the excess gasket thats oozed out. Pipework back in and jobs a good'un as they say.
