Air Con question.

Post by Sagwala »

On my newly acquired 406, I was told that the air on wasn't working, probably needing a regas.

My question is, How can I check the air con mechanics is working before I can and spend forty odd quid, on an unnecessary regas?

The button illuminates in the working on the dash, but no significant temp reduction, although haven't listened to see if I. Can hear the clutch on the compressor.

Any pointers appreciated. Thankyou

You may notice the rev counter go from 750rpm to 850rpm if the compressor cuts in.. In this heat, just pressing 'auto' should do it all for you.

I believe it has a fail-safe, which means if it has no gas it won't cut in.

Some places do a deal where if it can't be sorted you won't be charged, but worth shopping around.

The "click... thunk" of the compressor cutting in is fairly noticeable from the cabin.

If this doesn't work then you need to figure out what's causing the compressor clutch not to engage - this would be made easier with PP2000 diagnostics as you can see if the pressure switch is reporting no gas, etc.
