Throttle does not respond at all (only sometimes)

Further to my previous post:

This problem appears to be developing into something more serious....

On a few occasions now, after refusing to start straight away, it fired up but would then only tick over, and no matter how far you pressed the throttle pedal
it still just ticked over. The first time this happened I switched it off and restarted it twice and then all was ok.

So my first thought was replace the TPS, which within a week I replaced it with a secondhand one. All ok for a couple of days...

But then it happened again, struggled to start, and then would only tick over no matter how much I pressed the throttle!
Turning it on and off several times made no difference, I got out of this situation by pulling away on tickover and after about 20 yards, it picked up ok and
off I went no probs for another few days.

Just after this happened I called in to my friendly MOT station, who kindly plugged in his snap on scanner but found no codes at all.

Then yesterday, it happened twice more.

All the while I have still been suffering with intermittent pulling power as in my other post.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks Steve

You could verify the TPS operation with PP2k if someone nearby has it? It really does sound like a throttle problem to me!

Thanks Jon,

Yes that's what I thought, I cannot imagine what else it could be....

Perhaps the fault lies in the loom between the TPS and whatever it talks to?

Any one near Portsmouth with a PP2000?

Many thanks
Steve

*BUMP*

So any one near to Portsmouth with PP2000?

Reading in another thread on here, remap.....

http://www.hdi-tuning.co.uk/

Just maybe this could cure my intermittent power surge problems and this occasional complete lack of throttle response?

Any comments?

I assume I will need PP2000 to be able to do this remap? Completely clueless when it comes to this modern stuff post 1992 ish.

I'm in Bournemouth with PP2000, if you like I can meet part way for a diagnostic session?

Hi Gingermagic,

That's very decent of you, perhaps if I can persuade the wife n kids I could drop them off in Bournemouth and come to you while they see the
sights either one evening or at the weekend, will send a pm.

Cheers Steve

Well, sadly I couldn't find a fault with Steves car... :(

There were no fault codes at all in the Engine ECU - even though the throttle response issue happened recently.
I checked the throttle position on PP2000 and it looked good, but did a throttle position reset anyway.

Maybe a quick clean / re-grease of the TPS will do the trick?

All the values in Parameters 1 and 2 were very good - clean injectors with a low MAF reading, which is a bonus.

Only one thing I found unusual - the cruise control brake switch was 'active' even though it isn't fitted, and cruise is 'abscent'....

Any pointers.?

If there was a problem with the values reported by the TPS (e.g., out of range) then I'd expect full limp mode.

This sounds more like an intermittent loss of connection, but that should log an intermittent fault.

So could it be something else?

The only next step I can think of is to drive round with the graphical parameter measurement running to try and catch something.

Maybe worth a go.

The percentages were good on the screen, TPS is a replacement which is now showing the same problems as the original one. I think the connection up to the TPS is okay, so is there anything that could interupt the signal between the TPS and the receiver bit after it ( whatever that may be... )

Many thanks for all your time and expertise yesterday Gingermagic.....

No worries about not finding the fault, it is gonna be one of those that will need to become more regular before it can be pinpointed I guess!!

Will let you know if / when it happens again.

Cheers Steve

Have you considered fuel pressure regulator?

Did you actually replace the MAF?

Hi Jasper5,

No have not considered fuel pressure regulator..... and I have not touched the MAF, it's still as it was when I got the car.....
and now that Gingermagic's PP2000 says that the MAF is all good I will leave it alone (for now anway)

is this one any good?

I think you'll find it's more like this....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-EXPER ... 258719192c
Mounted on the High Pressure pump.

It would be best if you could find a cheap second hand one to test the theory...or borrow one.
They are too expensive to take a gamble with.

While a fault in the Fuel Pressure Regulator could explain intermittent lack of power (which it does also have) surely it could
not explain the sudden complete loss of throttle response, which has happened to me 3 times, I think only when I have been using air conditioning tho...
