207 engines..
Hello..
Anyone know if the engines fitted in the late 207s are on a chain or cam belt..
Its a 1.4 16v.
The 'dealers I've bought it from 'state it don't need changing but they wouidnt confirm if it was belt or chain..

Re: 207 engines..
The 1.4 16 valve is a belt.
Replacement interval 10 years or 100,000 miles, but 72,000 would be my limit.
The 1.6 engine can be a chain or a belt depending on engine code.

I think I'm right in saying the PSA 1.6 Chain found its way into the BMW Mini's ??

Re: 207 engines..
I think it may be the belt...... I'll double check tomorrow, one of the lads at work helps his mechanic mate out at the weekends and he currently has a 60 something plate 1.6 diesel mini thats had a timing failure and lunched itself in a big way and I'm pretty sure he said it was a belt, definitely a psa engine.Welly wrote:I think I'm right in saying the PSA 1.6 Chain found its way into the BMW Mini's ??
Re: 207 engines..
Thanks chaps..
I will look into getting the belt/tensioner and pump changed then.
The dealer said its been done..but he said it was serviced too..and it runs like chitty chitty bang bang
So I will take that with a pinch of salt..

Re: 207 engines..
Just done a head gasket job on one of these 1.6 Mini engines (petrol) the timing chains have tensioner issues, but in general the engine is crap!Welly wrote:I think I'm right in saying the PSA 1.6 Chain found its way into the BMW Mini's ??

Re: 207 engines..
The Garage next door to my work had a 1.6 Bini in with the Engine Light showing.......had no oil showing on the dippy which prevented the VVT from working (no oil pressure) upsetting the engine management. Put some oil in and they said it sounded a bit 'loose' when it was collected by the owner. Question would be why it used up so much oil in the first place? I guess if you asked most Mini drivers to choose between engine servicing or a Pink roof then the roof wins hands-downjasper5 wrote:Just done a head gasket job on one of these 1.6 Mini engines (petrol) the timing chains have tensioner issues, but in general the engine is crap!Welly wrote:I think I'm right in saying the PSA 1.6 Chain found its way into the BMW Mini's ??

Re: 207 engines..
Hi all.
I'm still having problems with this car anyone got any idea's before it starts turning into parts 'roullete'.
With the engine running on 'tick over..or stopping at lights etc
You can feel the car go all lumpy..other than that it drives like a brand new car..
Upto now its had a service..new plugs filters/coil pack /oil change..
I've checked the throttle body..gave that a clean..I found one of the breather pipes blocked..which goes from the cam cover..and loops into inlet and pcv valve..
A little difference there but not much..
There's no engine management light on...temp stays on 90.. not using oil or coolant..
Any ideas..

Re: 207 engines..
Well the mystery is solved..
It seems there is a crack in the 'cat'..
So the 1st lambda sensor will be ..sensing to much o2 or what ever..
Fecking car..

Re: 207 engines..
well this thing gets more confusing,
its been ok for a while,
a few week back ihad the Anti-poloution warning come up, 'the onboard diagnostics built into the think came up with everything is ok.
Iplugged my code reader in, found two codes,. lambda faults,
swapped that out with a new one, all was well,
now it runs like a lumpy old tractor if the weather is mild.
if the weather is cold.. it runs smooth just like a brandnew car,
no eml on or anything,
anyideas? map sensor perhaps.
upto now this thing as had:
a full gearbox rebuild.
new clutch kit
full service
new brake discs /pads shoes
new shocks
cat replaced
new exhaust
temp sensor.
new coil pack.
with the price of the car and all the parts..its adding up close to 3k
roll on next summer and then it can get traded in,

Re: 207 engines..
Update,
ive had some late night's. talking to some chaps over in france,
and they clued me up on whats wrong with it,
low-and behold they was right,
so after disconecting the battery and checking the connections to the ecu its sorted,
it seems they suffer with damp -ingress in there, even tho everythings under cover.
next job -oil leak on the sump.

Re: 207 engines..
Heres something weird*
on subject of oil leak,
ive changed the oil..and no more leaks.
The oil that was in hasn't done many miles.. its travelled..1k or so since Jasper5 serviced it.
.. oil came from Euro crap part's Qx branded..(wont/never use these E>C>P!
again/lesson learnt)
Replaced with Fuch's oil..& sorted.
how can oil cause leaks /or can it..?
anyone else had problems with QX branded oil?
