Nürburgring!

Hey guys, how's it going?

I'm very seriously considering taking my car to the (in)famous Ring over the Easter long weekend. I'm going with some friends, and I've already booked the accommodation, so now I need to decide if I'm going to be flying and possibly renting something to drive on the Ring and get lots of passenger laps, or go in my car!

I'd love to take my own car there and see what it will feel like around that track.

But I'm worried about something breaking, simply because the car would be driven very hard, at high revs, and for a longer periods of time, than I ever get the chance to... ahem... on the (very quiet, secluded) roads here. :) And the car is, after all, nearly 10 years old.

It has been maintained very well, full service history, but still...

What do you guys think? I want to change the oil and the filter on it anyway before I go. BTW, I was considering doing this myself... How difficult might it be? I read it can be a pig of a job, but not sure this applied to the V6. Has anyone done it themselves on the V6 and how did they find it?

What else should I check, and any other general tips?

Thanks!

£20 will get you an oil change and filter at a National Tyres branch - well worth it, especially on cars with hard-to-reach filters or sump plugs

Thanks for that tip. Just got these quotes off their website.

OIL2/6 Oil & Filter change - 10w-40 QXR (over 2300cc) £30.00
OIL1 Oil & Filter change - Hypergrade 15w-40 (over 2300cc) £25.00
OIL7 Oil & Filter change - Visco 7000 0w-40 (over 2300cc) £40.00

I presume the first and third options are better types of oil? Is it worth going for this? Don't really know much about oils, but do want to give my car the best, especially if I'm taking it to the Ring.

make sure you have alot of brake material left before you leave, change your brake fluid for dot 5.1, change your anti-freeze, and change the oil for fully synthetic 0w40 castrol edge or mobil 1 and use a genuine oil filter, also make sure your cambelt history is up to date
