2.2 hdi non start
Hello everybody. I've got an 807 with the 2.2hdi lump in it. It will not start and I'm at my Whits end and I'm hoping someone here can help me get to the bottom of this as its an engine that's fitted in the 406's. I hope you don't mind me posting here.
It turns over won't fire. No power feed across fuel pump fuse and many other fuses in board under bonnet. Been on pp2000 no communication with engine ECU. Changed fuse board under bonnet as corroded still no go. Tried several bsi resets still no go. Key is being recognised as pp2000 says. I'm pretty certain it a power problem. Anybody got any ideas? I've just ordered myself pp2000 so will have it on hand once it arrives.

Re: 2.2 hdi non start
so you need to start cheking the wires from the ecu to the bsi as that may well be where the fault is, its a labor intencive job and takes time so if you can do it your self. that is what i would do.
to start with check for chafing, then unplug and plug back in, then the wiggel test then get a multimeter on them and if all that don't work we go back to the drawing bord
also where are you located?

Hi & welcome aboard.
If you know the fuel lift pump in the tank is not working, that's a good place to start - will it go if you put a temporary supply on the lift pump?
As max says, post your location, maybe someone nearby can help/

Re: 2.2 hdi non start
Hi. Thanks for the replies. Yes the fuel pump powers up if I put a feed across the fuse and you the hear it kick in but vehicle still will not start.
does anybody know what wires I need to be checking. I have got some feeds getting to engine ecu but unsure what im meant to be getting and when and where. Im a mechanic so im able to do most test myself which helps and the car being off the road is ok because have another car. So time not an issue either.

Your best bet is a PP2000 system, this will tell you the status of the immmobiliser, engine ecu locked/unlocked, cranking speed, fuel pressure, crank/camshaft synchronisation and so on. (You need everything enabled plus about 200 bar fuel pressure and cranking speed > 60 RPM before it will start).
Don't get sidetracked by any reported glowplug problems, it will start without them.
This site may help a little with diagrams - its good for 406's but detail on your car is sketchy at best. http://petrila.org/repair/index.htm

Your comment about a number of fuses under the bonnet would suggest you may have a problem with one of the master fuses. I would check these first. A visual test is not enough, you need to know they are passing current.

All the master fuses next to battery and the ones in by the fuse board under bonnet are passing voltage.

Re: 2.2 hdi non start
Right update for tonight. Got home from work at 3:30 and at 5:15 I've got it running. Checked all earths by engine ECU and checked gearbox earth. Still no go. So next thought went to the wiring along the front of the engine. Started where it goes in to the plastic channel and started to unwrap the insulation. It all felt a bit damp. So wound it back then pulled on the wires so see if any broke. One of the wires kept pulling and I thought yes but it went tight. So thought I better pull it back found it went down a bit then branched left towards the engine fusebox. Thought as its only short bit to fuse box would get it checked. And hay presto behind the washer bottle I found some green. Unplugged loom from fuse board and pulled out. 5 wires corroded and green. 2 snapped and others were close to. Done a temp repair to test and then turned it over and boom in to life. So pleased.
Had pollution fault on dash with lots of smoke from the rear but left running for 45mins and it cleared and light gone off. Eml light on so will plug onto pp2000 when I get it. So so pleased. Thank you everybody for your input its been great.

Re: 2.2 hdi non start
Good news! Well done getting it started.
When you got it started, whatever your fault is/was has probably changed from 'Permanent' to 'Intermittent'. It will still be readable with PP2k, but hopefully won't bother you again. With any luck the EML will stay on for 3 or 4 more trips then go out by itself.
