Hi All
Firstly, good site but took some finding!
Recently bought a 406 turbo (Petrol) as a run around. Having owned a Sri (Turbo) a few years ago I am a little disappointed with the performance of the new purchase:
-Car seems gutless
-Hit 2000 revs and the car seems to want to go but it's as if the turbo cuts out just as it starts to spin
-Turbo appears to be spooling up as I can hear the usual whine, but there is no boost there
-can't find any air leaks
Have read up a little my thought s are either Actuator or watsegate control solenoid. Any ideas?
Thanks..........

You're spot on...Shandylegs1969 wrote:Have read up a little my thought s are either Actuator or watsegate control solenoid. Any ideas?
They are the first things I'd check! I'd also make sure none of the pipes to / from the WCS or actuator are split.

Slight update. Been looking at the car and have discovered it runs perfectly when cold, no problems with boost. As soon as it gets hot the problem returns, feels like it is about to go then it's as ifthere is nothing there.
I guess this rules out the actuator, but what aboutthe boost control valve?
Anyone got a good boostcontrol valvefor sale?
Thanks

I'm having a similar problem although my performance doesn't appear to be affected.
I have recently bought a 1997 406 Executive Turbo Estate and it has decided to flash on the engine management light occaisionally.
I had this checked out and it is giving the error codes 247 (Turbo boost controller) and 245 (Turbo boost)
Anyone able to tell me where i need to start looking to rectify these codes?
The good old haynes manuals dont cover the 2ltr Petrol Turbo engine, and I'd rather not have to pay main dealer prices for any repairs.

What I've been finding is the pipes are very sly and the plastic breaks in hidden places - they look OK until you have a pull at them.
Also, my hot engine loss of boost appears to have been the Bosch recircuating dump valve.
