Hi guys, back in Oct 06 the gearbox went on my D8 1.9 (I think it was the stealers that didn't check the box oil when it went for a service - never again!). I managed to find a nice chap in Birmingham who was breaking one that had done 57K. He said I could have the box for £75 if I took it out myself. So my dad and I went over and took it out. It was mission! Anyway, the next day we spent some time getting it in. It went in ok except what has happened is the gear stick is too far back. What I mean is when I put it into 1st, it looks like the stick is in neutral. The new box is very smooth and so much better than before. Check out the old box:

Would I be right in thinking that this problem is to do with the gear linkage? I did look at both boxes to compare them and I could have sworn the linkage lengths were the same.

Any ideas :?:

(BTW, the broken tarmac wasn't caused by the box, it was the rogue trader cowboys that did my driveway! :x )

I had a look under the car today to see if I could see if any of the arms were bend. As far as I could make out, they seemed to be ok. I'm gonna get one of my friends dads to look at it (he used to fit boxes at Ryton in Cov in the 206s) to see what the problem could be. I personally think it could be the linkage. I might have to take a trip to the stealers and see if they have a linkage in stock and fit that in hope that it will fix the problem.
