Re: tank fuelpump fail
Is the 90 definitely a Bosch system as the majority are Siemens...
In the meantime if you think its the in-tank pump you can give the bottom of the fuel tank a wallop to see if it helps ( honest, it does..)
If they are both Bosch then in theory they will fit.

Re: tank fuelpump fail
The one with the Siemens will have a rubber primer bulb to er, well, prime the system.
If there is no rubber bulb, then its a Bosch system, and there will be an in-tank pump instead - its just an electric version of the primer bulb.
Also, when you first put the ignition on, before starting the engine, you may hear a whooshing/whirring sound for a few seconds before going quiet - this will be the in-tank pump priming the fuel system and this also points to a Bosch system.
Don't go by the fuel filter housing or fuel rail, as they may say Bosch but may be a Red Herring...

I think there is also a fuse for the pump relay, although I can't be sure.

Re: tank fuelpump fail
Rule of thumb: If it's got a lift pump then it's Bosch.
There's a change on the lift pumps, RPO 08973 (June 2001) so all bets are off until you can investigate. Even the tanks, cradles, pump locking rings and seals are different (ah, so you might be able to tell just by looking at the cradles, there's not much in it though)

Re: tank fuelpump fail
Oh bugger.
Best check the RPO numbers ( the number that starts 08 on the silver sticker on the drivers door frame by the hinge.. ) and if they are both below 08973 THEN its looking good....
