Car alarm sounding

Post by pip470 »

Hello all,

First post however i have been a long time reader but never had the need to ask anything so let me start with saying thank you for a great forum.

My problem started returning home from work, the stereo went off. I then noticed the battery light was on and also the head lights had dimmed.

I just thought the alternator had just packed up and planned on changing it. I also ordered a battery and fitted that but now when i open the car door or start the engine the alarm sounds. The key pad has been disconnected by the previous owner and the key is missing the blip. the immobilizer light is flashing constantly even when the engine is running.

Ive spent a couple of hours on the forum already looking at resetting the bsi.

My car is a 406 r reg tdi.

Im thinking of buying the pp2000 of ebay so any buying guides and also opinions if this is going to help.

Do you have the code that will start the car if you reconnect the key-pad?

Maybe the keypad simply needs to be reconnected, enter the code and then disconnect it again when the engine starts.

Or

When I had a similar thing on the Mum-in-Laws 1997 Peugeot 806, I had to hold the alarm button down for a few seconds before turning on the ignition, keeping it pressed ( I think, it was a while ago now.. )

Ok. I'm worried about reconnecting the key pad as it wasn't me that disconnected it. Al though I have a code written a few times in different places named radio code in the maintenance book, I am not 100% sure this is the code. I think I might connect it with the engine running. This way if the code doesn't work I can still disconnect it with the engine running. Wish me luck. Thanks for your help so far.

Do you have any advice on the pop 200?

Auto correct. That should be pp2000.

Update. Opened the door and the alarm went off. Started the engine and plugged in the keypad. Both lights were on constant. The red and the green. I tried putting in the code and nothing happened. Disconnected it only to fine a little grey wire has pulled from the connector. It's numbers 1031 and there is a choice of 3 positions. I did try all three but nothing happened. I tried a bsi reset twice. The first time when I reconnected the battery the horn sounded once. Nothing happened when I switched the sidelights on. The second time nothing happened at all. Can the alarm be disabled with pp2000. I have no buttons by the headlight tilt switch or by the handbrake or even in the boot. I think my neighbours are going to hate me soon?

Hi, I'm not sure how 'deep' PP2000 can go with an older 406 - but its worth looking for fellow members with the equipment first to see how good it is before purchasing.

Try these I Googled earlier.. :arrowd:

Is there definitely no button that disables the alarm tucked away somewhere..??

Hello thanks for the reply, I actually read that thread last night, I can not find any buttons in any of the suggested places. i do Have some good news though.

i found someone with pp2000 and the first hurdle was it wasn't a 16 pin connector. it is apparently an older type which he luckily had an adapter. After searching through the options he said he couldn't find anything for the alarm. Only really read some engine codes it had developed when the battery went dead.

he spoke to another mate in the trade and he said if i had the blip then try and get it to disable the alarm. Trouble is the button fell off about three weeks ago. So, He bridged the contacts and the doors locks cycled because the drivers door was open. i closed it and we blipped the car shut and then open again and the alarm was disabled.
Very happy bunny. This cost me £10.
I have now put a new battery on it £60
And a new alternator £ 80
All i have to do now is get two keys and get them coded and i should be set for a few more thousand miles.

i don't know what i would of done if i couldn't get the alarm disabled. Probably just disconnected the fuse and lose everything associated with the circuit.

Morale of this story i suppose is if your belts squealing, which mine did when first starting the car. Fix it as the alternators do not like it, and if i had done that in the first place, who knows i might not have had to spend a load of money and head scratching. Live and learn.

Good result, so you just needed to 'plip' the locks and the alarm was deactivated...??

Just get a replacement key case from eBay and swap the internals/blade over - you won't need a code as you have a keypad instead.......

Thats another hefty £3 to your running total... :cheesy:

The key pad is disconnected. I dont intend on arming the alarm again, im just going to put the key in the door and lock/unlock that way.

And yes we just plipped it with the doors all shut and when we plipped it open the alarm was deactivated.
