Re: fault 0251
The injectors are a weak spot on these engines, but it may also be something simple like a fuel pressure sensor.
Let the garage do the leak-off test anyway......
Is there a Ford version of PP2000?

Re: fault 0251
Not sure I'm only used to French diesels
They are doing leak off test on Tues so hopefully they will fix it
Thinking off going back in time for an xud engined pug or Citroen never had an ounce of trouble when I've owned them in the past

Meh, all engines have their 'character' issues - sometimes you get lucky with an engine, sometimes you don't.
The Mondeo is a great car with a super engine, it would be a shame to get rid after you fix it.

Re: fault 0251
can`t fault the car but all of a sudden things have started to crop up it always happens when you don`t have the cash to do the repairs.
the problem I have is it is my work vehicle so need it all the time.
it is a great engine but I think they are now getting to complex unlike the olden days when if it didn't start you knew what it was now you have to plug it in

*reading OP* Glowplug light? What is this, HDI? TD? Oh, it's a Ford
No problem with you asking on here, it's probably hard to find a Ford forum that's no all tuning boxes and txt spk.
As GM says, all modern cars have their issues, I don't think you'll find anything made this century that doesn't, especially diesels with all their emissions garbage, it's all more to go wrong and none of it's cheap.
Btw is this garage you're going to just changing parts at your expense until the fault's gone?

no I`m not falling for that trick again they`re not charging me for the leak off test not sure about the injectors if they are faulty don`t mind paying for the parts it`s the labour that is the worst bit.I take it to small ford specialist near where I live.
still looking at getting a 2.1 td I would love an exec estate if the right 1 came up

Re: fault 0251 Mondeo TDCI
They really should have done the leak-off test first, since it costs next to nothing and injector failures on TDCi's are not that unusual. Excessive leakage will prevent the pump generating enough pressure.......
I believe the injectors need to be coded to the ecu on these, suggest you make sure they can do it or get it done at their expense.
I don't think common rail diesels are necessarily the nightmare people think, particularly if you have a decent resource, like this forum and access to cheap diagnostic tools as we are fortunate enough to have. I've run HDi's for 11 years / 230k miles, had very few problems and have managed to resolve them all myself, with the help of this fine institution.

Re: fault 0251 Mondeo TDCI
This is a classic situation where you have to be certain of your diagnosis before you replace any parts.
Exactly what I was getting at in the thread by Scotty about his cooling system problem.
I have a Polo diesel that I'm trying to diagnose atm...the parts are £450...I won't be replacing anything until I'm absolutely certain they need replacing.

Re: fault 0251 Mondeo TDCI
Unfortunately poster john might have jumped the gun on a seemingly correct diagnosis, however he should now be the owner of a spare 'good' fuel pump - this might be of decent value on ebay or something? might help recoup some of the injector costs.
It's a bloody nuisance all the same and I think we've all done it before, one of the joys* of owning cars....

I just hope the 3 injectors is the end of it. I'd be thinking 2nd opinion needed.

at last got the car back and what a difference injectors on cylinders 1 3 4 were shot number 2 was newer than the others
been looking into buying some injector cleaner and been told miilers is the best for diesels its about a tenner a bottle but I only need to put 50ml into a 50 ltr tank of fuel every 5 fill up .
