Lucas Epic '97 406

Post by hirschhs »

Apologies if I'm becoming a nuisance but desperation leads me to try anything at this point! The car's been off the road for months!
Our Lucas Epic pump was faulty, was rewired and now won't work at all and I can't find a 2nd hand one anywhere, I mean ebay uk, france, germany, (equivalent in) Hungary and I've done the web-based UK scrap-yard searches, all to no avail. I can't believe it can be so difficult to find one.
Now we are advised that it might be better to convert to a mechanical one but, I'm no mechanic and have no idea where to start; not in fitting it, that will be done by a pro, just what to look for and what the problems might be.
So, firstly: has anyone got a lead to a Lucas Epic, secondly: does anyone know what the problems are in converting to mechanical and finally: which mechanical pump will fit?
many thanks in advance
steve

A Bosch pump from a 1.9 will fit, pretty sure there is a guide on here or at least some threads by people who've done the conversion.
Once done you can run it on veggie oil which offsets the cost of buying the bits.

You may even drop lucky and pick up an entire car for bits locally, strip what you need and weigh the rest in :cheesy:

I've done the conversion, well worth it but I'd imagine its expensive if you have to pay someone to do it. You basically need a Bosch pump off an XUD9t engine, injector pipes and Bosch injectors. While its all off change the cambelt, tensioner and water pump etc... I would also put some new glowplugs in if your planning on using veg oil.

I must of done 15k since all on WVO and its still running great :)

thanks very much; labour here is very cheap so the cost of the conversion shouldn't be prohibitive unless it's a highly specialised job. Could a competent mechanic handle it?
I'll have a look for this Bosch pump and see what I can find... also a thread on how to do it!

As long as the mechanic can time the pump correctly you will be fine. The Bosch pump was fitted to all 1.9td 406's if that helps, its also in many other Pug/Citroen models.
You could have a look through this thread-
