has anyone ever attached a PEUGEOT 407 2.0 LITRE PETROL 6SPEED MANUAL TRANS/GEARBOX RHRH 20MB02 in a 406 engine coz running a round on high rev sometimes i think is injustice to our engines.

Hi

The 407 final drive ratios are not suitable as they have bigger wheels, fitting a 20MB02 to a 406 is likely to give you a lower top gear than you have now.

A 20MB04 from a Citroen C5 works, but only fits a 2.2 HDI 406.

I have seen a 406 for sale once on eBay with a 6 Speed. So if you could find the right box I am sure you could do it.

After switching to a 407 2.2 hdi 170 6 speed from my 406 110 hdi,i can tell you that the 407 in 6th gear is about 400 rpm lower than the 406.Not much of a difference i thought.

As my 2.2 petrol's clutch just shat itself, I wanted to know if the ML6C from the 407 Coupe would work as a replacement for my 406 Coupe's ML5C. Posed the question on the Coupe Club forums.

As it turns out, it'd be a straight swap - except that the final drive would mean the engine would turn faster to maintain the same speed. If I were to strip down my ML5C, take the 5th gear out of that, and put it into an ML6C, and fit the ML6C, I'd end up with a more efficient cruise, with the engine rotation being lower in 6th at the same speeds as it would be in 5th on my existing gearbox. I would also end up with a higher top speed.

However, as I guarantee I'd muck this process up spectacularly and ruin two gearboxes (and make an enormous mess at the same time), I decided to simply shelve the idea.
