I have a 2004 110bhp 106K miles 2.0 hdi estate, at low revs (pulling away in1st) it will sometimes fail to rev or be super sluggish, but it probably only does it 3 times a week,I know when it's gonna happen cos if I'm stationary the tickover will drop and become lumpy.

I've replaced in tank pump, blanked egr which has brought up emissions error, replaced fuel filter and replaced pressure regulator on fuel pump (which cured the problem for 3 weeks)

Any ideas?

Possibly the pressure regulator on the back of the HP pump, I have had several different faults with these.

The thing is only 2 months old and was a brand new Bosch part....................how could there be anything wrong with that?

Sorry didn't read your post properly. The problem with those is usually that the filter clogs up but assuming your fuel filter is in good order that shouldn't have happened.

Hm, could be the high pressure fuel pump itself. Or the injectors... or MAF. Can you try disconnecting it and see what it's like?

If it was the injectors surely I'd have the problem permanently, the MAF sensor? I'll disconnect it, but again, if these things are knackered you get poor performance all the time.

I read somewhere that the brake light switch is connected to the ECU,when the brake pedal is depressed the switch also tells the ECU to cut fuel supply.............is this right? does this apply to my late model car?

I thought the injectors lasted forever on the 2.0. 8 valve engine, but apparently not, I have a C5 with the same engine and apart from the fact that the fuel consumption has always been poor it has been dying on you when you put your foot down to over take, embarrassing to say the least

After several years of enduring I have suddenly realised that one or more injectors are faulty. I came home a few weeks ago with the car full of hay, I had difficulty getting up the slope from the farm as it kept wanting to die on me, I got home and gave it a good revving which was accompanied by clouds of white smoke and misfiring which has got to be an injector problem, the next time I tried it was OK again.

The good news is I got a set of injectors from ebay for £25 but have yet to identify and change the faulty one/s
