Hdi pump timing?

This could easily be another dumbarsed question, but,
Can pump timing cause problems on common rail Pugs?
It seems to be issue with VAG TDi's, looks like a right old faf.

I don't believe the HDi pumps are timed. As long as they're being spun by the cambelt they'll be fine.

.... assuming that the camshaft and crankshaft are synchronised, the PP2000 says mine are but could it tell if it was one tooth out? I am about to find out soon. The injection advance is correct according to the lexia but would it be if it was a tooth out?
The real answer to the original question is quite correct, the injection pump is purely a high pressure pump to maintain the fuel rail pressure - so it doesn't need to be timed, the timing is all done by the ECU - assuming its being fed with the correct information.
