Pug OE Back Box in premature failure shocker

Post by Doggy »

Looks like mine is threatening to die after a mere 13 years / 170k miles. :(

It's had an untraceable rattle since I got the car, but now all has been revealed. The OE box is double-skinned and the supporting strap attached to the outer shell. In my case the outer shell has all but vanished, leaving the (broken) strap rattling against what's left, so I removed the loose bits on Saturday.

Exhaust rattle gone! :cheesy:

I guess I will have to swap it tho as I'm off to France next week and Germany a few weeks later. Anybody changed one / had one changed recently?
The only bits I've ever swapped were the back box and centre pipe at different times on the previous Dogmobile.
Last time I got an OE box a main dealer was selling cheap, (honestly)!

Would you go for the Klarius stuff Eurocarparts / Carparts4less do, or just stick it in a tyre & zorst place?

(It's having two front boots & a 4-wheel alignment on Wednesday, suppose I should just let them do it).

That's shocking, I would write a letter to Mr Peugeot immediately!

I wouldn't bother sourcing one yourself and all the associated 'wrong fitment' capers. I'd ask the tyre/egg place to get one but not the cheapest, something like a Bosal - expect to pay about £60.00?

I managed to resist their cut price* offer* to fit a back box for £95, (instead of the usual* £119)

AND the low-cost* front pads+disks for £250, (normally* £295).

ECP do the lot for under £70, IF I need them.

Thanks for the heads-up.
Not sure what to try - since yours was pretty quiet without any silencing, I'm tempted to get someone to knock me up a plain cat/dpf-back pipe.
Anybody else found a decent solution?

I bought Bosal middle section, and rear box, from 2 different suppliers on the well-known auction site,
then paid my local garage the £25 they wanted to fit them.

Well pleased. Saved money on the purchases, and no grunting around underneath
the car on a cold winter's day.
