Hi all could anyone help me diagnose a problem with my car, after driving it gently for about 6miles i had to stop at some roadworks at which point my engine cut out on me but restarted immediately after, now this isn't the first time this has happened but i wanted to test it out a few times before asking for advice..

A little background info, i have had it remapped with a stage 1 map and also i have had the EGR deleted at the same time but it has done it since before the map and delete I thought the EGR would cure the problem but it hasn't so please help me

Also the engine management light has never come on and there is no faults stored in the system..

Any help would be great

I wonder if you could have an ignition switch problem - maybe it 'thinks' you've turned it off?

What happens to the dials & warning lights when it stops?

I too considered if it might be an ignition issue, what happens is it all lights up as if you've just turned the ignition on ready to start it so you've got all the stop lights, battery, oil ect the only thing is that confused me with that theory is that it only happens at a complete stop never when driving along,

I was thinking would it possibly be the part on the rear of the pump that has 2 wired going into it ( im not sure what it's called as you can tell) i put a rod onto it to listen and it makes and irregular squealing noise but I don't know what it does or if that noise is infact normal

I don't know how to add photos onto here otherwise i would show you the item i mean but it's a 2.0 hdi 2003 and apart from cutting out sometimes it also idles ever so slightly lumpy but nothing bad you can just see the niddle bounce ever so slightly

Hi,

It does sound like it's just not idling for some reason, (which I've not heard of before). :?

Lumpy idling can be due to worn injectors causing individual cylinders to receive different amounts of fuel, or worn engine mountings allowing the engine to bounce around giving a similar effect.

The electrical items on the HP pump are:
- 3rd piston deactivate solenoid, (which is just switched fully on or off according to engine speed AFAIK).
- pressure regulation solenoid, (which is pulsed on/off rapidly).

I've never listened to one so can't comment on the noise, but it could well be normal for the pressure regulator.

Have a look at PeterN's posts - he has suggested cleaning or changing the regulator to a few owners in the recent past, you might find the answer there.
(If you search his posts, using "regulator" as the search term, you'll see what I mean).
