Strange noise coming from front of car!

Good morning, How is everybody?

Last weekend I was transporting alot of my friends stuff for a house move, nothing too heavy just clothes and bottles etc...

On my final trip back and fourth to his new house I noticed a loud whining noise coming from the front of the car, basically it sounds like an old bus whining when I drive.
The noise isn't always present but mostly happens when I'm slowing down to a stop, my breaks make a noise but this is not them.

I've had a quick look online and most point to pulley or Power steering fluid, I dismiss the first because I have a complete Crankshaft pulley and Belt replacement a month ago.

Anyone got any ideas?

Is the noise dependant on engine speed or road speed, can you reproduce it by revving the engine or is it only when the vehicle is moving? If the latter I would suspect a wheel bearing.

Hello PeterN,

The noise is very prominent at lower speeds, anything above 40mph and its gone.
It was not there yesterday but came back this morning, sounds like the left hand side etc..

Sounds like wheel bearing, does the pitch/volume change when you corner? If its the l/h bearing the noise will likely get louder when you corner to the right.

I've noticed that the noise is there most of the time and the whining is very noticable at low speeds when I slow down when no foot on the gas.
Last night I had a brake fluid warning flashing on the display and handbrake logo flashing on and off when I stopped outside my flat, I've checked the fluid and its full.

I think that'll be the handbrake switch.

Does the noise change if you sling the car about?

If I drive fast there is no real noise, its only when stopping or slowing down I get it and im not pressing the brakes.

Gearbox noise perhaps? Is it there in neutral?

I've recently had the clutch replaced as it exploded while driving home after work, left the car with no gears lol.

When the car is left in neutral nothing can be heard, its fine on idle.

When you replaced the clutch, was the DMF and then thrust bearing changed?
