crankshaft pulley sizes

Hi all,
Does anyone know why Peugeot opted to change the size of the pulley from 162mm O.D to 158mm O.D ?
Apart from the cost & the obvious difference in size I can see no reason.
So my question is will the older bigger pulley work fine on the newer car which should have the smaller pulley
OR NOT! , Obviously I will need a slightly longer belt, I have calculated 7mm longer will be perfect.
But will it work with or bugger up my aircon pump / alternator /fuel pump timing ect.

The fuel pumps aren't timed on these, so not an issue.

I guess the only affect is the speed the belt goes round, but why are they different sizes - is it the dual piece, single piece thing?

From what I can find out, if the cars made after 6/2002 it will have the 158mm dia one
Before that date 162mm dia  also a delphi or sanden air con pump alters the length of the belt
You go figure  I hate it when manufacturer's alter stuff for no apparent reason :x

There seems to be quite a lot of adjustment on the aux belt so I would think that it would do for either, especially on a used belt. I could be wrong of course ....

I decided to exchange the pulley for the right one £13 more but I figured not worth the risk
