406 2.2 HDi FAP / DPF removal

Hi all,
I have recently bought a low mileage 406 2.2 HDi knowing it needed the DPF sorted out. I had thought about refilling the Eolys fluid tank, but then someone mentioned it would be better to have the system removed entirely. As I live on an island, I don't have the option of taking the car to a specialist, but I'm willing to give this a go myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a diagnostic cable and laptop available to me. Is there a guide as to what's involved? And a slightly unrelated question, I also need to sort out my exhaust, as the flexi has gone at the front pipe - is it possible to replace the flexi or do I need to replace the whole downpipe with the cat?
Grateful for any advice received.
Donald

Have a look at this thread.

Are you sure your flexi is actually leaking? The reason I ask is that I cut out the flexi on my previous car and got someone to weld in a repair section.
This worked, but when I examined the old one, only the outer braid had parted. There were two further layers of steel spiral wound flexible pipe inside that not only looked OK, but were more substantial than the aftermarket repair section that replaced it. Don't change it unless you can see / feel an exhaust leak.

This is all doable for someone with reasonable experience tinkering with cars and it sounds like you're a good candidate (living where you live I bet you need to be handy at things).
I understand there's a little reprogramming of the car's systems needed to tell it to stop trying to regenerate or warn of low fluid level etc but various members here have experience to help you along as its no big deal really and certainly not beyond even a novice level.
Good luck and don't forget to shout up if you need any help.

I suspect you would struggle to go for a long enough / fast enough drive to regenerate a DPF in your part of the world in any case.
The closest roads on the mainland wouldn't be much help either, I'm guessing.

Indeed, I'd imagine 95% of modern-ish dizzlers wouldn't suit Island living at all. De-fapping in this case is the right way to go and the bonus being that any soot belching out of the back will just blow away into the Sea

Thanks for the replies guys, I suspect that as the car has been on the island for the last 11 years or so, it's probably inevitable that the DPF system was going to clog up - its only been covering a couple of thousand miles per year over the last 3 years, so that won't have helped either.
I'll have a look at the thread copied above and see how I get on - don't worry, if I have any questions, I know where to come

Hi Donald, welcome to the club.
The FAP removal guide is quite easy to follow - I did mine nae bother....
The only thing I would add is t maybe get some replacement nuts and bolts in case you need to cut yours off ( the car I mean

)

Fair point Kelv, the originals are M8 x 35.
4-off M8 x 40 stainless screws, nuts & washers are your best readily available option.

Hello PUG drivers.
Just arrived home from a long journey from Netherlands where i purchased my first Peugeot 406 with 2.2hdi engine.
It is a very nice car and i enjoyed the trip.
Despite the high mileage (386t km) it is in great shape and drove well .. EXCEPT for the antipollution fault, that is..
i was prepared for that so no surprise there and now when i am home just have to do the work to sort it out.
I have read the post Doggy made describing how it should be done and i am confident i can do that but one important thing i cant figure out - how to send the PM to Doggy to ask for the necessary files. I have just created my account and when i view the profile of Doggy do not have the option to send the PM..
Doggy, if you read this, are you still willing to share the files?

Hello Pug drivers.
I just bought myself a 2003 406 2.2 hdi estate and it does show the typical fault - antipollution failure. i have decided before the purchase that i will remove the dpf and disable it. have ordered the pp2000 and galletto to do the job.
Doggy has explained the job well and i guess there will be no problems with that.
however, from those who have done it - is there any aspect that has gone wrong in the process? if so, what was that? Just to understand where i should be even more careful during the job.

Sometimes posts awaiting approval don't appear amongst the new posts, quirk of the board I reckon.

Not to worry, I couldn't decide which of your posts to approve as they were different, so I approved both of them. You're not in China about to spam our boards full of garbage are you?

i have not been in China yet. And don't have much time to spam on forums.. so surely not.
however i want to get my new old car in shape to appreciate and decide if it is a keeper.
and the DPF and EGR removal is the first thing i want to do.

People, do you also "recommend" smashing out contents of the catalysator?
I am not worried about the mot test at all as i am sure it would not be any problem without cat, but rather if it is in any way beneficial to the engine or maybe exactly opposite and best to leave it in place?
we are still talking about 2.2 hdi..
