HDI 110 woes :/

I'm hoping some peeps on here might be able to offer some help on a non 406 matter, well it's an 806 unfortunatly (the new kids-mobile to be exact) that I bought as a project to keep the wife happy (I don't drive it at all, TWO :mrgreen: ) It's a 2000 V with 98k on the clock, and I only did this 'cause it was offered to me for £500 (not bad for a 2000 model)

I've been searching around quite a few forums to find out if anyone has the same running problems as I with these HDI 110's, I'm quite used to rebulding the older XUD's but I'm admiting that this is my first HDI project.

Anyhoo, the engine was rebuilt due to a failed bottom pulley which someone else decided was just old engine rattle :? .... Job included head skim, 2 new valves, full set of rocker/followers, 1.5mm head gasket, rings, shells, crank sensor (cos I've replaced 2 in 2 years) and every damn seal i can get to. The car has previously had a new MAF, turbo (500miles old) and ECU (because some mechanics seem to think that this will cure everything!!!)

I have not long finished rebuilding this engine and have come up with the following problems.

Biggest worry.....the cambelt is running off the pulleys (away from the block) and has lost over 3 mm in 400 miles. The water pump, idler and manual tensioner was replaced with the new belt. Belt was tensioned the old fashion way, 1/4 turn either way on it's longest run. I've done about 10 cambelt changes on the XUD's but this one is baffling me, everything looks straight!?! The car will be off the road as of today, as I'm shitting it with this belt.

Car misteriously cut out for no reason (so the wife said) just crawling along in a queue of traffic when it died, then it wouldn't fire back up and only fired into life after 10 mins rest. I scanned for codes and got P00C8 & P00CC, both I cannot find any info on. I have cleared the codes successfully, but the return after a few miles of running (DIY ELM327 scanner & PCMSCAN) All the live data looks fine, 0.9 Bar boost steady peaking at 1.02, MAF peaking at 100g/sec at motorway with WOT (not much else to read on these)

Has anyone ever read the live data from the fuel rail pressure or cam/crank timing info with anything other that an Diag2000?

Is it the DMF that chirps when the clutch is engaged 1->2nd, 2->3rd? Not had any dealing with these before either. It's only just noticable, but these vans are well padded. No clutch slip and the bite is close to the top of the pedal, but not too high.

The clocks on the dash are crap, absolutly crap. Rev counter and speedo sticking every now and again. Speedo will sometimes come to rest at 30 but maintains accuracy if you subtract 30 from the reading, RPM & VSS is working perfectly from scanner. Anyone know of a reputable breaker for bits??

And on the last matter, is the odo set from the clocks or BSI? I just need to know incase I ever source a set of clocks.

Does anyone know what interface is used for the Diag2000, I can mill PCB's if anyone has a schematic or layout, it seems the software isn't difficult to find :!:

I know this isn't a 406 but I do maintain two of them for the family, an old V reg 110 exec which is sweet, and an absolute lemon 51 plate HDI 90 which returns 40mpg when driven like Miss Daisy's car. I do like them, they keep me busy anyways :)

right i am almost certain the belt is comming off because the cylinder head isnt fitted properly, if its not 100% square on the block then the belt will run off, its a very common problem, there was a bad batch of engines infected with this problem, though it may also be a bent camshaft, but this is unlikely,
the reason you can find no info on them fault codes is because they are manufacturer specific codes, only peugeot can tell you what they mean, but i doubt they will want to help in the slightest
and you can only read the live data with the Diag unfortunatley
the odometer is set by the BSi and any other clocks fitted will have the mileage stored in them to the mileage in the BSi, and new clocks require software using the Diag, but only peugeot can access the software

OK, the cambelt run off problem was found!

The 3 bolts that attach the diesel pump bracket to the engine block have a design fault. There are 2 spiggots in this assembly, it turns out that the spiggots are a few mm too short. What happens is the spiggots can slide up into the pump bracket and loose contact with the engine block. When you reapply tension to the belt (like when you change the belt) you can skew the bracket causing a missalignment. If I was to change a belt again, I'd remove the bracket and loctite the buggers in. When I removed the backet, I found both spiggots buried in the backet!

I didn't find this out be myself, a helpful Citroen dealer told me about it.

I'm not sure if this would be the same for the HDI90's but it's worth a check.

According to Citroen, it's really common!
