Accelerator pedal position sensor issues - 2.2 petrol

Post by JD01JD »

Hi,

Trying to sort out an issue on my new to me 2002 2.2 16v Petrol.

The car drives and idles fine, not really lacking in power (although since the car is new to me I probably wouldn't notice) however checking on Peugeot Planet there appears to be something wrong with the accelerator pedal position sensor.

No fault codes are recorded however looking at the live data is reporting 20% pressed and around 1.4v at idle (interestingly it still reports the throttle position as idling). At full throttle (turning the TPS in the engine bay so the cable isn't stretched) it reports around 90% pressed and around 4v. Looking at the throttle butterfly with the intake removed you can see it not fully opening, testing actuation with peugeot planet it opens all the way.

Swapping for a know good TPS didn't change anything - results are exactly the same.

Anyone know what the issue could be?

Thanks.

HI & welcome aboard. 8)

No personal experience of petrol TPS operation, on a diesel it should indicate 0 & 99% for fully shut / fully open.
I suspect the 'error' at the bottom end might reflect what your idle control system is up to. (Does it show 0% engine stopped / ignition on)?
Can't see why it shouldn't go to 99% when fully open though.

Anyone else?

I'm surprised that not going to zero isn't bringing up a fault -- it does on the diesels, for example if you take up too much slack in the cable.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Hi,

I also thought about the possibility of the 20% being something to do with idle however it makes no difference if the engine is running or not. It's also showing the voltage as around 1.5v which it would be if it was 20% open.

I'm also surprised that it isn't throwing up fault codes and still idles and drives fine.
