question for james our master mechanic???

Post by trem1 »

i had a little problem with my drivers window today, it wouldnt close it would go so far up then appear to hit an invisible object and return back down, well i kept trying until it would'nt work at all  well i figured it must have some kind of thermal cut-out so i left it alone for ages and ages(about3 mins really) and it still wouldnt close  so of to the stealers i went, to keep the story short the mechanic came out pressed the button and guess what :?: yep it worked fine  anyway he said it was a dry rubber *oo-er-missus* and sprayed the rubber with something out of a small areosol can with a peugeot lion on it.

the big question is WHAT was in the can james any ideas cos its left a greasy residue on my window but i dunno what it could be, surely not some sort of grease, what do you think :?: :?:

Yeah I've had exactly the same thing ever since I owned my 406. I've just learnt to live with it and found that if you turn off the engine but still leave the electrics on it will close fine.

But why does it do it James? Is it due to an increased resistance hense the stuff sprayed on trem1's window?

If the battery has been disconnected for any period of time then the cars brain has to re-learn where the pinch point is on the window. Keep pressing the up button and the window will go up in measured increments. Once it reaches the top , hold the button for 10 secs then lower all the way down. Repeat this process a few times and eventually when you hard press the button ( i.e. up in one press ), it will close all the way. Any silicone based spray that contains teflon or molybdeum should work on the rubbers.

the auto up function on the window needs to be reprogrammed and will keep giving you these symptoms, as wes1001 said, the stuff he would have sprayed would be wurth silicone spray, its expensive stuff but does the job
though thinking about it trem, it could be a sign of the dreaded BSi failure
there maybe some software to cure this though, ill ask my dad if i remember

the BSi is a Built in Systems Interface, its basically one computer which controls all the electronics within the car, ranging from the electric mirrors to the engine immobiliser, if its electric the BSi controls it

This tells you a bit about the BSi too

Tremmy, I reckon the window rubber was just a bit tight and the window thought you had got your head stuck in there and backed off. Hopefully it will be ok.
