Hi I've had several 90/110s and always ditched them if they developed engine probs. I've now bought a very nice 2002 2.2 which drives well but has various messages occasionally flashing up, some which put the engine management light on, some don't. Some limit the performance (limp home mode?) some don't.
"Anti pollution fault" and "unblock diesel filter" are 2. Diagnosis? I bought this car very cheap and I'm prepared to spend a little money on it because in all other respects it's the nicest i've owned.

There probably both linked,
On the 2.2 you have a D.P.F which uses eloys fluid to regen probably needs topping up
Or 'fixing permanently '

Have a search on here, search & ye shall find

Failing that where are you, millage & spec I could be interested :)

I've had 3 406s, two of which were the excellent 2.2Hdi engine.
Both had DPF issues when I bought them, but like you I got the cars cheap so I didn't mind tinkering. The DPF was removed completely ( hollowed out ) and the car remapped to suit - only cost me a bit of time, and a friendly member here flashed the new map onto my ECU 8)
This changes the car completely..!!

I suggest you get a cheap hand held vac pump ( £15 or so from Amazon ) and use it to test the vac pipes on the car for leaks or blockages - there are far too many pipes on this engine and the majority of them can be removed if you choose to remove the DPF and blank the EGR.
