You said it was it was a right pig of a job , you were right !!!!!

But got it done ,but does not seem much difference still flat up to 1500 revs, also it has started needing sometimes turning over twice to start, which it has never needed in the 8 yrs I have had it ??

Re: need advice maf sensor

Having a look at replacing the MAF on my car, however it's been a while since I've disconnected the MAF electrical plug from the MAF sensor, and it's not coming off that easy.

Just to confirm is it the two tabs in the lower centre of this pic to press down (screwdriver etc) then is it a separate housing onto the MAF from the electrical plug or is it all one piece?

Thanks

I don't think so ( it's been a while... )
I think it's a lift up tab in the middle on the underside of the connector - guess that makes it a pull down tab...
It can be stiff, sometimes a little leverage with a baby screwdriver helps.

OK thanks, I did have a look there - wasn't particularly obvious at first look.

Think I can see it now - almost in line with the upside down no. 4?

Yes,
As Ginger say's the only thing I will add is to be very careful using a screwdriver,
I have found if you push / press the M.A.F connector into the socket of the M.A.F at the same time as
pulling downwards on the inner plastic tab you have shown in your last pic it should come away quite easily.

I can usually reach around the connector and pull the tab downwards from the rear of the plug with the tip of a finger. As GM says, it's dead easy once you've done it once.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it will be one of those tiny screwdrivers required then, as the tab wouldn't budge.

Hi

Just to clarify, is the tab to push down the one I've circled in yellow? (Doesn't seem to be budging that much with a mini screwdriver) Also, does the entire grey plug come off? (i.e. one piece unit?)

Have a closer look at your picture.
Underneath you can see a long black part that goes through the loop - it's the end of this tab that you need to pull down at the tip and pull out only the grey part...

That took all of 15 seconds to remove, as I said no screwdriver needed just push the plug into the M.A.F
sensor & pull that tab down & then out :cheesy:

Thanks for that, took no time to remove now I knew where the tab was...

Even better, the flat spots from the acceleration have gone and I now have the full engine power back with the MAF plug disconnected. No more going up hills at 20mph... didn't think unplugging the MAF would fix that but it has.

Also with a Euro 3 engine, you don't get the EML light coming on.

I read on here it's OK to leave the MAF disconnected - would that be OK for say a week or two until I get a new MAF (Siemens / VDO) as I read the ECU goes back to a default setting with no MAF plug connected?

Thanks

It'll be fine, just not as optimum as it could be with a fully functioning MAF.
My wife's Picasso had it unplugged for nearly 5 years :cheesy:
