exhaust

:P Ok as said im my welcome /newbie post i do tend to bore people, what i didnt say is i also go off on tangents and am tight as a duck's proverbial.....

Found out back box is detached from rest of exhaust and the centre section is about to do the same at the front and it dont fit right .. looks like wrong one?? maybe last owner went to kwik S**t

Spent most of my day off ringing/browsing for zorst and they anywhere from 320@stealer or 320 for stainless custom one but booked up till 20th may :shock:
214 from hi-q, then found back and centre for 96 delivered, but thought hey wait a minute......

Firstly i will explain i had a rover 600 turbo and bought a universal jap style back box :P then bought a 1 metre length of pipe, then ground old back box off and cut down pipe so it would sleeve the new back box and existing exhaust and fitted with clamps and hung it with metal cable ties and voila it worked and sounded MINT......

Guess where this is going yet?????

how about i get another metre or so of stainless pipe , cut the centre box out, replace with the steel pipe in the same way ( cut nicks in each end so it can be sleeved and clamped) then use the piece i have left over from my rover to add to a universal back box and do it myself and save 30-40 quid (money i aint got as i just bought the car)

If anyone wonders why i dont weld the pipes together i cant weld- tried it once and was blind for 2 days and set every bit of metal i tried to weld on fire :? :cry:
Well what you reckon is this a recipe for disaster??
or am i just mental and bored???

well mission aborted, i bottled it , as the car sounds like a tank with the centre section blowing i thought it would probably be too much , so won a new centre on flea bay, for the grand sum of £36 delivered, got a 2nd hand "universal" back box for £25 delivered, i had some steel pipe to make an adaptor, and the garage where my girlfriend tina works is gonna fit the centre, weld the back box to the steel pipe and fix it to the centre section and put hanger from old back box onto new one, all for the princely sum of £30, considering everywhere wanted 110+ just for the back box i think the total cost of £91 for the whole lot is fairly decent......... yes i know i am a tight ar*e , 8) 8)

nope just really really tight, i could even show a scotsman a thing or two lol.
why spend that much money when there "has to be a cheaper way" .
i probably spend more ringing round than i saved but i feel better! :cheesy:

i couldnt have said it better myself . thats probably why my exhaust ends at the cat and the soot from the exhaust ends up everywhere in and out of the car :shock:

lmfao , mine is close to doing that i thought it had been fitted wrong as centre box was twisted...... no it is f*cked at the join and can be turned via the end of the pipe so when pipe starts scraping i just twist it back up again.

dont exhausts gather a lot of soot , i blew into the replacement back box and nearly choked myself and now have black snot~!!! :|

for a grand total of £85 quid got new centre , jap stylee back box and the whole thing fitted to car ..... even got the hanger from old box welded on , pic to follow...
now it sounds just as loud but is legal and it gurgles/pops when you dip the clutch and the deafening noise is out the back of car not under the seat!! :P

Apart from the sound/look, is there any benefit in performance by just replacing the rear box with a larger/different one? Or is it a case of all or nothing?

I honestly dont know, as the centre was blowing at the cat side of the box ( in fact i could turn the centre so i presume it was held on with luck) but the centre has deffo made a difference it is stronger in all the gears , especially 2nd :cheesy: :cheesy:

nice price, i tried all sorts , stealer, kwik fit, independants, and the cheapest i could find was an ad on here offering 50% cheaper and that still came to 100 delivered, my car is an executive turbo so dont know if that makes a difference ??
in fact i think even after searching on here other people were all saying they paid 150+ unless i hadnt searched properly AGAIN!!!!!

it does sound nice though 8)
