90bhp hdi tuning anyone do private garage remapping cheap on here

Post by Dieselderv »

Hi I have the slow 90bhp hdi estate..come from a 200bhp Volvo d5..I know the 90bhp doesn't have an intercooler..if I get the complete intercooler set up and ecu ignition ring ect ect will it turn mine into a 110 or is that being stupid..any quick tuning fixes apart from a £199 remap out there...

The 110 swap isn't as straight forward as it sounds..
Intercooler, injectors, turbo, pipework, radiator surround, extra wiring loom for the solenoid etc etc...
This would give 110bhp - but the reasonably priced remap would give more power with no modification to your car.
To me, it's a no brainer.

Just adding the intercooler will do nothing, a diesel engine needs more fuel to be more powerful. The fueling needs to match the air. The intercooler on the 110 simply keeps a lid on the charge air temp but more so on very hot days to help keep enough oxygen in the charge air so the engine doesn't start smoking.

There's a strong theory that over cooling the charge air can reduce performance by 'quenching' the combustion process, approx 15 deg's C is supposed to be ideal for charge air on a diesel. Over in Canada where they get extreme Winter's lorry drivers will cover some of the intercooler to stop it overcooling.

The 90 doesn't have an IC because it's not needed, as others have said a remap to 120bhp is about all you'll achieve realistically which is not to be sniffed at if you think about it. Siemens pumped systems are very difficult to fiddle with but Bosch are ok.

I read somewhere just last week that even the conrods are different between the 90 and 110 but have no fact to prove that.

I had a 90 with siemens ecu found it difficult to get mapped so put on a tuning box, it was a great improvement all round, took it to 110 hp, no smoke did over 100k without any bother and easy to fit, eventually scrapped car at 270k needed clutch, cam belt 4 tyres and new wing were missus hit a gate post, ive still got the box if yours is a siemens you can have it for £25 +p&p txt me 07889442432

The 90 is very easy to get quite a bit more power from.

HDi tunning can give both the Bosch & Siemens ones 125bhp for £99.00 with no further mods

& up to 155bhp with a few more mods.

Yes you can fit a 110 intercooler, you will need the intercooler & the boost pipes each side.

fattail on here is breaking a very good / well kept 110, he will have the necessary boost pipes
& also has two new intercoolers for sale. One is still in the box.
