Hows it going guys? i noticed today that when driving the car and accellerated heavy that at 2000rpm (around when turbo kicks in properly)
that the revs jumped from 2000-nearly 5000rpm.
so i am guessing that the clutch is on its way out.

how much roughly would i be looking then to replace it.?(i no different mechanics different charges but just looking a ball park figure)

cheers stewarty.c

Hi i have had the same problem so have many others mine has been doing it for about 20000miles however only does it if i rag itr i have different theories suggested which are all likely whoever i ask such as oil contamination from the crankshaft seal to air bubbles in the hydraulic clutch i from what i understand you can get theDMF if yours is the 110 model and clutch replced by a garage for £600 or just the clutch for £300 you can however buy a valeo conversion for £150 and get someon to fit it that doesnt have the dreaded DMF included im not sure what the problem is but wehen it got really bad i went to scotland on a 2000mile journey during that time i drove steady and it went up some of the steepest gradients in this country full with my wife and daughters i dont know why but i have a feeling it isnt entirely clutch related i do 100 miles a day and i do sometimes cane the crap into my car and it hasnt slipped for 3 months i went to one garage and they refused to change it because it was so intermittent they couldnt say for sure another thing that makes me think the clutch is ok on mine is that i can pull my dads 750kg twin axle trailer without a problem and when i have the handbrake on it doesnt slip in any gear if i gently lift the clutch it just stalls.

what engine is it?

james mines is the (2001) 90bhp hdi engine.
It all started more when i fitted the tuning box. which then makes me think the extra power was helping the clutch on its way out. (also smelt abit of clutch burning to)
should the clutch catch as soon as you start to pull the pedal out? as mine you have to pull the pedal out about half way or more before it catchs.

This is becoming a common theme here.

Re-map the HDi and the clutch craps out :|

Strangely though my clutch has not slipped one little bit for ages now :?

I have to agree with welton the clutch slipping seems to stop but im not too keen to fork out to fix it i have a few friends who are mechanics and they told me just keep going till it slips in every gear constantly and if its been ok to 20k miles i cant see it happening anytime soon

So after a bit of fiddling for "MORE POWAH", your clutch is giving way?

This is why I leave things under the bonnet as is. Its like it is for a reason, that reason is that all the parts fitted are rated for the power the engine delivers as is. Start to tune or chip and you begin to exceed limits.

A guy down my street is learning this the hardway. He took a perfectly functional ultra low mileage M reg Vauxhall Chavalier and tunes and chipped and remapped it to death. A week later it was on axle stands for repairs and has been under repair constantly ever since.

I do agree to an extent here Bluey but a modern Diesel engine will take a hike in power without the drawbacks of a petrol engine in terms of heat etc. and the Diesel internals are *very* strong.

It just happens that the HDi clutch, for some reason, is a bit weak (sometimes?). Afterall my clutch has played up on my standard 110 engine @ 105,000 miles quite early really.

I would consider a remap to, say, 130/140BHP but only if I knew the clutch would take it. Someone on here (rapport25 ??) was looking into an uprated clutch and it will be interesting to fingd out how it works out.

its only taking the power from 90 to 115bhp maximum.
which as welton says with new diesels they should be able to take the extra bit of power.
although when i noticed it i pulled over straight away and took off the tuning box to prevent any further burning out of the clutch.

cost me about the £700 mark for a new clutch and DMF to be fitted.
Could have had it done for about £500 by a friends garage about 100miles away, but he could only do it 4 weeks after I needed it done. (I wanted it sorted for my holiday)

My least favorite subject - clutches!

I get the same clutch slip on mine sometimes. I plan to get the clutch, flywheel (dual mass) (*) and probably crank oil seal(**) done at some point. Expecting to pay round the £600 mark.

*I think/thought the flywheel may be on its way out as i been getting some vibration but seams better/less noticeable since i serviced it

** May as well get it done £10 seal and is an expensive job to go in and fix it at a later stage.

Hi,

The clutch and fly wheel is not hard to fit, so buy something like this of the internet

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-406-2-0-H ... dZViewItem

Although I would use Euro parts which is a similar price, then just pay a garage £100 or so for fitting it.

I will be doing mine when I find a job, as my car was used as a caravan towing machine, although has only done 52,000 miles when I bought it. So may be ok
