406 lambs or ex gas temperature sensor.

Post by Mick406 »

406 2.0 hdi estate 110 rapier which one is fitted to my engine I've been told it's one or the other I had an anti pollution show on my dash and I now have eml lit all the time, changed the MAF and no different but not sure if I need a lamba or not. Its failed the MOT so desperately in need of a fix even a way to bypass the sensor so it is useable , no car no work. Please help.

Hi and welcome aboard. 8)

HDi's don't have lambda sensors, (AFAIK they're only used on petrol engines).
2.2 HDi's with a particle filter have exhaust temperature probes either side of the DPF, but there's no reason for one on a 110.

'Anti-Pollution Fault' is a generic term for ANY engine ecu fault code, it's probably not related to the exhaust system. Temporary faults, (like disconnecting a sensor or turning the ignition on with one unplugged), sometimes clear themselves after a few journeys.

Failing that, you need to find out what the fault is with a diagnostic reader, preferably Peugeot's own PP2000 or Diagbox system, (which some of us have access to).

If you post your location, someone nearby may be able to help.

Agreed, no Lambdas on the Hdi.

The 110 has less to go wrong than the over complicated 2.2hdi, so more than likely to be an overboost fault due to an old solenoid, or the MAP sensor, or an out of sync throttle sensor etc etc - to be honest there is no point playing parts roulette until you get a diagnostic done.

The MAF is worth changing periodically anyway.

Again, just add your location to your signature so we can point you in the right direction.

I don't think there are any 406oc regulars in your area, but you could try this link:
https://www.peugeotforums.com/threads/d ... -map.7734/

You may find someone fairly local that could have a look for you.

If you don't get an immediate solution but get the fault code(s) / description(s) we might be able to point you in the right direction.

It is probably related to boost. MAP sensor is reading lower/higher boost than expected by ecu according to signal from throttle position sensor. Probably lower. Check for leaks between turbo and intake. Also check for vacuum leaks which affects solenoids controlling boost and egr. May also be faulty map sensor or bad electrical connection to it.

This link https://catalogs.ssg.asia/peugeot/?lang ... aWVyPT0%3D
shows most of the sensors/locations for a typical 110 HDi - may help you do at least a visual inspection
other pages show the egr system, turbo, HP pump etc.

Good luck, let us know how you get on

Hi guys it ended up being a fan relay for the rad causing the problem passed mot after a faff but now another problem has surfaced. Went to park up heard a single knock from the rear of the engine near the floor pan now whiteish smoke under load and slight lag on the turbo any ideas

White smoke isn't a good sign,

It's normally due to unburnt diesel & or water in the diesel (can be a leaking headgasket)

Google white smoke from the exhaust on a diesel.

You really need a session with pp2k & someone to look over it that knows what there looking at.

It only started after I had parked up and to be honest it sounded like a pipe popping under pressure which leads me to think a vaccume pipe somewhere causing the problem it was only on idle at the time , il have to try and get a pressure check done to check head gasket as can locate anyone with that reader locally. cheers.

If you heard it go pop, it's unlikely to be a vacuum pipe ( as theses are teeny tiny in comparison ) but one of the main intercooler pipes runs underneath the engine to the turbo, another from the turbo to the intercooler....

These popping off, or splitting will certainly give lack luster performance, and an EML.

These are tricky to spot if you have an under- tray fitted, but you may be able to hear where any leak is coming from.
